EPR Job Description

Title:  MS Dance Club Sponsor     

Responsible to:  Middle School  

Description of Club/Activity:  The dance club allows a variety of dancers that may or may not belong to a dance studio that would like an opportunity to experience dance in a school setting and who want to perform and showcase their skills to their peers and community.  The dance club is an opportunity to take part in an extracurricular activity that will build their self-esteem and social skills.  This club will allow for interest to be gained in the dance program that will be offered at the high school as a PE alternate.         

The goals of this club are:

1. To promote school spirit and a positive school atmosphere.
2. To provide an outlet for students’ creativity and love of performing.
3. To provide entertainment at a basketball game and a parent performance.
4. To learn dance skills from various genres at practice.   
5. To allow students to be exposed to dance and given the opportunity to perform at the middle school level before tryouts at the high school level.  
6. To expose dance to our district and gain interest in taking future courses that are offered to high school students for PE credit.
7. To promote overall self-esteem and allow those that participate to meet new faces.   

Length of Season or Duration of Activity/Club:  Length of club– 3 months.  Sign-ups will start in mid-October. Practices start at the beginning of November.  Basketball games begin in mid-late December. Games end at the beginning of February. A basketball halftime performance will take place within those months. A parent performance will take place within those months.  Practices are held for 1 hour after school once a week or every other week depending on what is needed to complete the routine that will be showcased. 

Qualifications:     

1. Possess knowledge and/or experience which provides a fundamental background in dance techniques in different dance genres.
2. Experience organizing student activities, events, and performances.
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills through dance.
4. Must demonstrate a willingness and ability to extend students’ appreciation and knowledge of dance.

Job Goal:

1. To organize and implement routines and activities of the club.
2. To be committed to developing students’ enjoyment and knowledge of dance.
3. To foster greater interest and appreciation in the arts through the different genres of dance.
4. To create/design a costume/performance uniform for all students.
5. To design and create a shirt for students.

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Conduct regular meetings and practices of the Dance Club.
2. Choreograph a routine, and work on skills and techniques with the dancers. 
3. Apply for grants to assist the club in funding its activities and performances. 
4. Perform at a school basketball home game and parent performance held with the HS Dance Team.

In relation to the District’s mission statement,  the dance club will showcase the mission above, specifically targeting artistic and athletic excellence. All dancers will demonstrate and represent their school and embrace their school spirit.  This dance club will broaden South Fayette’s performing arts opportunities.  It will also give students the platform to express creativity and cultural diversity of the arts via dance. It will provide students with an experience in performing in front of a large crowd and allow for the overall growth of each dancer.    

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Principal and Associate Principal and communicated to the Superintendent.

Payment: Payment for this activity will be made-this will be determined by Administration by the duration of EPR
