Job Title:             Maintenance Technician  

Reports to:         Maintenance Manager

FLSA Status:       Non-Exempt

SUMMARY

The Maintenance Technician position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the Cooperative’s business goals and objectives.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(Other duties may be assigned)

  • Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant facility’s equipment. 
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service. 
  • Perform simple machinist duties and responsibilities. 
  • Perform mechanic duties including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines. 
  • Safety use heavy equipment to include tractors, forklifts, pay loaders, man lifts, and skid steers.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service. 
  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments. 
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities. 
  • Perform a variety of plumbing maintenance and carpentry functions. 
  • Safety use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties – this includes welding and the use of cutting torches.
  • Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision. 
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas. 
  • Effectively communicates by verbal and written means with customers, employees and management
  • Maintains a positive attitude that promotes teamwork within the cooperative.

  SUPERVISORY RESPONSBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent. At least 6 months of related experience and/or training preferred. Willing to seek out and attend additional continuing education, seminars, classes, or other job-related education requirements or opportunities. Requires basic knowledge and use of computers and computer software.

 

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

This position requires a valid driver’s license.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and grain dust. This position is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and explosives. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and/or confined spaces. The noise level in the work environment in some areas may, from time to time, exceed 85 db.
