The GSU Counseling Center is seeking an experienced and compassionate Assistant Director of Crisis and Suicide

Prevention to lead and supervise urgent care and suicide prevention services. This pivotal role involves overseeing critical documentation, stakeholder communication, referrals for follow-up care, and campus-wide service assessment. The Assistant Director will provide individual consultation to students, offer short-term counseling, and ensure seamless administrative coverage for campus emergencies during both day and after-hours shifts.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO:

·         Leadership and Supervision: Provide effective leadership and supervision for urgent care and suicide prevention services, ensuring a compassionate and responsive approach to addressing the needs of students in crisis.

·         Documentation and Communication: Ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation within the electronic records database for all interactions and services provided. Facilitate clear and timely communication with stakeholders, including referring faculty, staff, families, and other relevant parties.

·         Referral and Follow-Up: Collaborate with the clinical team to ensure timely and appropriate referrals for follow-up care for students in crisis. Maintain a streamlined process for ensuring continuity of care beyond urgent interventions.

·         Campus-Wide Assessment: Coordinate and conduct assessments of urgent care and suicide prevention services to identify areas for improvement and inform ongoing enhancements to campus-wide crisis response protocols.

·         Training: Provide workshops and seminars for students and the campus community including training seminars for doctoral interns and post-doctoral fellows in crisis intervention and suicide prevention.

·         Individual Consultation: Provide expert consultation to students seeking services, offering guidance, support, and appropriate recommendations to address their mental health needs.

·         Crisis Follow-Up: Facilitate follow-up care for students, faculty, staff, or students who have engaged in urgent care services, ensuring a smooth transition to ongoing care within the counseling center or appropriate external resources.

·         Counseling Services: Provide short-term individual and group counseling to students, applying evidence-based therapeutic techniques to address a range of mental health concerns.

·         Emergency Coverage: Serve as backup administrative coverage for campus emergencies, participating in a rotation with the Director to provide support during after-hours and daytime emergencies.


Minimum Hiring Qualifications: 

  • Master's degree and three years of related counseling experience or a combination of education and experience. 

  • National Board and State Certification required. 

Preferred Hiring Qualifications: 

  • Significant experience in crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and providing mental health services to diverse populations.

  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to guide a team of clinicians in high-stress situations.

  • Proficiency in electronic record-keeping systems and ability to maintain meticulous documentation.

  • Empathetic and culturally sensitive approach, with the ability to connect with students and individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  • Knowledge of ethical and legal standards related to mental health practice and confidentiality.
