In Australia, we operate a select, highly skilled, internationally diverse engineering team, providing engineering and design advisory services to Australia's naval programs, and maritime autonomy system development. Our team holds expertise across naval architecture, marine engineering, systems engineering, integrated logistics support, engineering consulting and acquisition program management.

We are seeking skilled a skilled electrical engineer to join our team at Leidos Gibbs & Cox Australia. As a key member of our engineering team, you will contribute to innovative projects within the sector. The position requires the following high-level attributes:

  • Degree-qualified electrical or marine systems engineer with strong knowledge and experience in marine electrical power generation and distribution systems

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to engage with senior stakeholders and decision authorities and explain complex positions and issues

  • A positive, solutions-orientated attitude, with an ability to influence thinking and advocate for the Project team’s interests across multiple program stakeholders with divergent interests

  • An ability to mentor and share experience and lessons with the project team membership to build electrical engineering skills and abilities in the project team

Important / desirable attributes:

  • Knowledge and experience in naval ship / submarine electrical systems, including the survivability aspects of naval ship electrical systems

  • Experience in design and specification of marine electrical systems

  • Knowledge and experience in electrical propulsion systems and power management systems

  • Clear understanding of systems engineering process - from specification writing, requirement analysis and traceability through to system level design/interface, and requirements management.

Responsibilities

The position will include the following responsibilities:

  • Assess and advise on key electrical system technical risks

  • Support the review of technical deliverables from the project’s Head Contractor

  • Review calculations applying electrical engineering principles, techniques, procedures and criteria for naval ship designs

  • Engagement with the combat system delivery participants to address provision of combat system electrical requirements, and establishment of the associated interfaces

  • Assess and advise on suitability of system characteristics including performance and survivability implications

  • Mentor and share experience and lessons with project team personnel to advance electrical engineering skills and system knowledge within the project’s technical team

Additional Information

The successful applicant is required to hold a valid NV1 security clearance or have the ability to obtain and maintain a valid security clearance as well as other mandatory background checks including a National Police check.
