Location: Tagawa Gardens 7711 S. Parker Road, Centennial, Colorado 80016
The Houseplants Department Associate position is categorized as a Full Time, Year-Round, non-exempt position. The workload for this position varies based on the time of the year. Scheduled days within the department vary based on department needs. Flexibility on weekends is required. The Houseplants Department Associate directly reports to the Houseplants Department Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:
GUEST SERVICE
o Greet every guest and offer to assist them with their needs.
o Develop knowledge of all houseplants and related products to effectively assist guests.
o Present additional plant care and product up-sale suggestions to all guests.
o For sales: set up and process paperwork for delivery via current protocols.
o For repotting: set up, process paperwork, service charge, price products, and perform the repotting service.
o Create dish gardens, terrariums, and on-trend houseplant container gardens as directed, effectively priced to sell according to store protocols.
INVENTORY AND ORDERING
o Strong understanding of inventory needed to ensure proper pricing, labeling, and maintenance of inventory
o Order plant inventory as needed.
o Assure orders are accurately received and processed by unpacking, pricing, labeling, and displaying.
o Train with Receiving Department to streamline invoices and purchase orders.
o Complete Purchase Orders in a timely manner.
o Maintain concise discrepancy reports for incoming orders.
DEPARTMENTAL FUNCTIONS / DUTIES
o Develop new ways within the garden center and the community to drive sales and to draw new customers.
o Actively participate in global vision of garden center and collaborate in working groups within Tagawa Gardens.
o Participate in offsite sales opportunities and actively seek new avenues to sell our plants.
o Develop business to business relationships to help drive new revenue streams.
o For department maintenance: water as scheduled, deadhead, prune, and fertilize as instructed.
o Shrink and dispose of dead, dying, diseased, or otherwise unsaleable plants.
o Keep record of plants and merchandise that have not moved or possibly expired.
o Detect and perform immediate spot treatment of insect and disease problems, including alerting supervisor when major infestations occur.
o Create and maintain attractive displays, including cross-merchandising with other departments.
o Assist unloading foliage shipment from trucks, pallets, or racks. Unpack, tag and water new plant material, clean and display immediately upon their arrival.
o Responsible for knowing weekly sales, in-store specials, promotions, and special events.
COMMUNICATION
o Knowledgeable of internal systems and procedures pertaining to Paylocity.
o Answer phone and department transfers, reply to voicemails, document special orders, departmental issues, product shrinks, and pertinent events of the day.
o Complete transfer sheets to update newly created dish gardens, terrariums, and repots for inventory.
o Assist the Guest Service desk with houseplant/blooming plants, to include pricing and deliveries
o All employees always treat guests and co-workers with friendliness, respect, and professionalism.
o Communicate with supervisor regarding department ideas, seasonal changes, and suggestions
CLEANING AND SAFETY ADHERENCE
o Recognize and resolve any hazards which may cause a safety issue.
o Responsible for sweeping floors and removing trash at least once a day (or more often as needed).
o Recycle plastic and paper as instructed by store guidelines.
o Sweep up water in the Houseplants department as needed.
o Know the location of SDS and be able to understand and follow the instructions.
o Adhere to all safety rules.

Requirements
MINIMUM SKILL REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:
o Must be at least 18 years of age and eligible to work in the United States.
o High School graduate, GED, or equivalent education is required.
o Adequate math skills to understand percentages.
o Adequate houseplant knowledge to include scientific names and needs of care.
o All candidates hired, rehired, or promoted into administration or supervisory roles must satisfactorily complete a background check to be eligible for this position.

All positions within Tagawa Gardens require assisting other departments during critical times in peak season, to include lifting and carrying heavy materials throughout the day.
