Jazz at Lincoln Center seeks a dynamic, highly skilled, creative and organized jazz educator to join the Youth Programs as Site Coordinator; Middle School Jazz Academy. The Site Coordinator works closely with the Youth Programs Director to provide support to the MSJA students.

The MSJA course of study includes a series of music lessons, ensemble rehearsals and performances and broader youth development activities including attending Jazz at Lincoln Center concerts. The MSJA curriculum combines skills-based learning with aesthetic education, emphasizing self and group discovery, creativity, open questions, and guided reflection.

LOCATION: All classes and rehearsals for MSJA take place in South Bronx, Brooklyn.

The Site Coordinator basic responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Help set up rooms with instruments, chairs, and stands
  • Assist in preparation of course materials, arrangements and assignments
  • Take weekly attendance and follow up with families if students are absent
  • Assist in review of student assignments and journals, as needed
  • Accompany students to model focus, musical phrasing, time feel, and tone production, as needed
  • Attend planning and professional development meetings with staff and faculty, as requested
  • Participate in the student audition process, as needed
  • Other responsibilities as agreed upon

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High level of interest in jazz education and serving the needs of middle school students
  • Excellent instrumental ability in piano, drums, bass, trumpet, trombone, clarinet, flute, or saxophone
  • Solid organizational, coordination, and communication (verbal and written) skills
  • High level of enthusiasm and ability to work as a team player
  • Committed to youth development and the use of jazz to enrich their lives

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in Google Classroom and Google Sheets
  • Current college or graduate student in jazz performance and/or music education

REQUIRED SCHEDULE COMMITMENT: Up to 10 hours per week, October-May.

  • Required to attend at least 75% of staff meetings
  • Sundays, October through May, 8:30am-1:30pm

EVALUATION: Performance is to be evaluated annually by the Program Director and Vice President of Education.
