Purpose

Under the direction of the Director of Finance, the Senior Accountant employs various accounting systems (hardware and software) and related procedures to record, analyze, and report fiscal results to supervisor and other staff as appropriate, in accordance with GAAP and grant reporting requirements and in a timely and accurate manner.  Assists with reviews and analyses of accounting and reporting data to help ensure that the agency is maximizing use of agency resources. 

Responsibilities

  • Uses accounting processes to obtain accounting data from various sources (i.e., agency staff, vendors, sub grantees, automated payroll system, subsidiary accounting systems, excel spreadsheets, etc.) for posting to the general ledger in an efficient, accurate, and timely manner.        
  • Documents and communicates processes and monitors performance of processes
  • Assists in the preparation and submission of accurate and timely fiscal reports, budgets, and related drawdowns/invoices to agency funders
  • Responsible for calculating, recording, and maintaining the Agency’s drawdown documentation for federal programs.
  • Responds to independent & funder auditor activities supplying information requested by auditors in an accurate and timely manner
  • Prepares account analyses, for review and discussion with appropriate staff and/or funders
  • Prepares and submits invoices for billing of VA programs.
  • Manages, updates, and reconcile contribution spreadsheets to donor perfect database on a monthly basis.
  • Other related duties as assigned

 Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with a minimum of two years’ relevant experience
  • Ability to work with team members.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Valid Driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Experience using computerized accounting systems.
  • Expert knowledge of Excel & Access.
  • Non-profit experience
  • Optional-Knowledge of mental health, substance abuse and homelessness

Supervised by: Director of Finance

Pay scale: $68,000-$75,000 based on experience

Schedule: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
