Additional Information: Show/Hide Position Summary The Director of School Turnaround Supports is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and monitoring of processes and structures designed to transform the culture and climate of secondary schools across the district. This role focuses on driving systemic change in underperforming schools by establishing clear frameworks for school improvement, supporting principals and leadership teams, and ensuring that secondary schools provide safe, engaging, and equitable environments that foster academic achievement and social-emotional growth for all students.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Strategy
Develop and implement a districtwide turnaround strategy for secondary schools that aligns with the district’s strategic plan and student achievement goals.
Partner with school leaders to design and execute school-specific improvement plans targeting culture, climate, and instructional quality.
Establish metrics and accountability systems to monitor progress, track leading indicators, and drive continuous improvement.
Support principals and building leadership teams in strengthening schoolwide management systems, including scheduling, staffing, safety protocols, and operational procedures that contribute to a positive and orderly school environment.
School Culture & Climate
Lead efforts to build positive, inclusive, and student-centered cultures in secondary schools.
Provide coaching and professional development to principals and school leadership teams on building relationships, restorative practices, and equity-focused leadership.
Collaborate with student services, counseling, and community engagement departments to address student attendance, behavior, and engagement barriers.
Instructional & Operational Supports
Ensure alignment between academic programming, behavioral supports, and school operations to promote consistent expectations and a strong learning environment.
Coordinate cross-departmental supports (curriculum, professional development, HR, operations) to ensure turnaround schools have the resources and personnel necessary for success.
Support schools in implementing effective instructional practices and interventions for students performing below grade level.
Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
Engage families, community partners, and staff in creating a shared vision of school transformation.
Serve as a key liaison between school sites, central office leadership, and external partners to mobilize resources and build collective ownership of improvement efforts.
Present regular updates to the chief academic officer, superintendent, board of education, and community stakeholders on progress and needs of turnaround schools.
Qualifications Education & Certification
Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or related field required.
Valid school administrator license (or ability to obtain) preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience in urban education settings, including experience as a principal or district-level administrator.
Proven success in improving student outcomes and leading school turnaround or transformation initiatives.
Experience with secondary school environments strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Deep understanding of urban school challenges and research-based strategies for school turnaround.
Strong skills in data analysis, strategic planning, and change management.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders.
Ability to lead with cultural competence, empathy, and a focus on equity.
Capacity to work in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
Performance Expectations
Demonstrated improvements in school climate survey results, attendance, and discipline metrics.
Evidence of increased academic achievement and growth in targeted secondary schools.
Strengthened capacity of school leaders to independently sustain a positive school culture and continuous improvement.
CERTIFICATION Must possess or qualify for Indiana Certification for Administration and Supervision.
