Position Duties

Three years of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer commissioned with the power of arrest; OR

A bachelor’s degree in agricultural sciences, veterinary science, forestry, or in a biological science or a criminal justice field.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.

A drug screen and background check will be administered prior to employment.

Successful completion of a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification within 6 months of employment.

Job Duties:

The incumbent in this position serves as the lead worker over lower-level Police Officers. They act as the point of contact for the assigned shift and may provide functional supervision during that shift. This position reports to an Agriculture/Forestry Enforcement Supervisor.

  • Conduct vehicle and foot patrols, Control access of persons and vehicles, and monitor CCTV surveillance;
  • Respond to emergencies and intervene in crises involving the public or state employees;
  • Prepare investigative reports, security logs, access logs, accident reports, desk logs, and daily activity reports;
  • Receive emergency calls through LDAF’s 24-hour hotline;
  • Handle calls related to forest fires and agricultural crimes;
  • Monitors safety-related building issues, including, but not limited to, lighting, emergency response equipment, temperature of refrigerated warehouse, and emergency generator power availability.

Functional Requirements:

•Moderate light lifting, 30 pounds with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds

•Reaching above shoulders

•Walking and standing (8 hours)

•Climbing stairs and occasionally ladders

•Occasional bending or kneeling 

•Prolonged sitting at workstation

•Drive a vehicle to perform Security Checks

•Assigned Shift Work Consisting of Nights and Weekends


Environmental Factors:

•Working indoors and occasionally outdoors

•Occasional excessive heat and humidity


Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: This position may be filled by a Job Appointment (up to four years).

Career Progression: This position may be filled as an Agriculture/Forestry Enforcement Officer 1 or 2, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
