What are we looking for?
Our Engineering Design Organization is expanding and looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join their team in Columbia, SC! With your years of experience in the design of electrical power generation and distribution and utilization systems. You’ll coordinate & perform power studies (including Arc Flash studies), detailed design of electrical power systems, assist in proposal preparation including scope development and preparation of engineering estimates. You’ll also prepare electrical equipment procurement specifications and electrical construction documents.
Responsibilities
- Data Collection and Analysis: Conduct research using primary data sources, and select information needed for the analysis of key themes and trends.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Manage technical troubleshooting projects, ensuring effective diagnosis of technical issues with equipment and experiments and the development of effective solutions.
- Personal Capability Building: Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an in-depth understanding of technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
- Testing: Develop product specifications and design test procedures and standards.
- Project Management: Deliver small- or medium-scale projects while working within an established program management plan.
- Engineering Drawings: Create complex engineering drawings to support the communication, evaluation, and implementation of engineering solutions.
- Equipment Installation: Lead major equipment rebuilds; guide planned installation of complex systems.
- Process Design Engineering: Analyze information and specify the methods and process steps, as well as the plant, machinery, and equipment, required to design and continuously improve manufacturing or materials processes and process systems to deliver the end product within specified cost and quality parameters.
- Engineering Solutions Design: Design engineering solutions and the associated validation process to enable the realization of a design brief (for example, in terms of functionality, performance, aesthetics, and cost) that conforms to organizational and/or regulatory standards.
- Installation Monitoring and Control: Operate highly complex installation systems, devices, machinery and complete standard engineering assignments, solving problems by selecting appropriate engineering techniques and making relevant design recommendations.
- Client & Customer Management (External): Manage relationships with small clients while also helping senior colleagues manage relationships with larger key clients and customers.
What will you bring to the team?
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- At least 15-20 years of experience in the design of electrical power generation and distribution and utilization systems; experience with industrial and municipal clients
- Familiarity with ETAP or SKM computer-assisted electrical power study programs including short-circuit, protective relaying coordination and arc-flash studies a plus
- Working knowledge of NFPA70 (NEC), NFPA 70E, and NFPA 70B and other electrical industry codes, standards and recommended practices
- Federal project experience a plus
