About the Department

The Town is seeking a part-time Recycle Attendant to work in the recycling facility of the town. This position accepts yard waste/brush from residents of the town and county, directs town and county residents in their gathering of mulch, and ensures that contractors, landscapers, and tree trimmers have a paid receipt to dump yard waste and brush.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

Schedule:
  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
  • 9:00am to 1:00pm / 1:00pm to 5:00pm
  • Weekend Availability Required

All new employees must satisfactorily complete a background check. A conditional offer of employment may then be made contingent upon the successful completion of a physical exam that includes alcohol and drug testing.

Position Duties

  • Staff Recycling Center when assigned.
  • Check vehicles to ensure customers are Town of Front Royal or Warren County residents and logs vehicle tag numbers for our records.
  • Assist residents by providing information regarding rules (including dumping of yard waste/brush and loading of mulch).
  • Answer resident's questions in a friendly manner.
  • Inspects materials to ensure customers do not leave unacceptable materials in yard waste/brush.
  • Document and report any illegal dumping of non-acceptable materials to supervisor.
  • Report problems or needs to management.
  • Report to work at the scheduled hour and work the entire assigned schedule; 4 hours per day, 5 days per week.
  • Keep the guard shack and bathroom clean and presentable.

Minimum Qualifications

Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience: None Required
  • Valid Driver's License

  • Ability to explain the rules and regulations of the farm; what materials are allowed and disallowed; what the Town will accept at the site.
  • Communicate effectively, courteously and tactfully with public and staff.
  • Prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Be organized and capable of multi-tasking.
  • Work efficiently without supervision.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk and reach.
  • Maintain good working relationships with other employees and the public.
  • Work in an outdoor environment for extended periods of time if needed.

  • Enclosed office-like structure; heating and air-conditioned environment
  • The worker is also subject to outside environmental conditions; extreme heat, extreme cold, noise, insects, traffic hazards.
Physical Demands
  • Work is mostly sedentary in office-like environment
  • Work requires walking, standing, crouching and stooping.
  • Vocal communication is required for exchanging ideas and receiving orders, hearing to perceive information,
  • Visual acuity is required for operation of machinery and motor vehicles and to determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work.
