Position: Senior Fabricator
Compensation: $28-33
Position Summary:
The Senior Fabricator is responsible for the design, fabrication, installation, and repair of exhibit elements, animal habitats, guest areas, and facility features within the aquarium. This role requires expert-level skills in finish carpentry, welding, and general fabrication using a wide range of materials including wood, metal, plastics, and composites. And a strong understanding of both aesthetic and structural construction methods, with the ability to work collaboratively on immersive exhibit environments that meet animal welfare standards and engage visitors.

Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 5+ years of professional fabrication experience in themed environments, custom exhibits, scenic construction, cabinetry, or equivalent
- Proficiency in finish carpentry and various welding techniques (MIG, TIG)
- Experience with multiple materials including wood, metal, plastics, composites, and hardware systems
- Valid driver’s license in Utah or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
- Must be comfortable working under a wide range of temperature, noise, and light conditions, including indoor and outdoor settings
Preferred:
- Experience in an AZA-accredited facility, museum, theme park, or interpretive environment
- Familiarity with waterproofing, theming techniques, scenic painting, or rockwork
- Forklift or aerial lift certification
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, or mechanical systems a plus
Critical Skills/Competencies:
- Ability to safely operate fabrication tools, power equipment, and lifting equipment
- Strong understanding of safety standards and animal welfare requirements in habitat and exhibit design
- Ability to read and work from blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings
- Excellent problem-solving and collaboration skills
- Willingness to work in varied environments, including aquatic and animal spaces, and adapt to changing priorities
- Must be able to perform physical demands of essential job functions with or without accommodation
- Must possess a strong work ethic, attention to detail and a positive attitude
- Must be able to maintain a clean and organized workspace
- Excellent communication skills are required
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with maintenance of the facility, including building, vehicles/equipment and grounds
- Assist with landscaping and snow removal
- Assist with exhibit installation and other general maintenance
- Assist with drywall and/or painting needs
- Assist with general carpentry needs
- Ability to understand instructions and concepts in the construction of projects
- Adhere to all safety protocols
- Other duties as assigned
Schedule Requirements:
- Requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or holidays during exhibit installations or emergency projects
Physical Demands of the Job:
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and work in tight, elevated, or awkward spaces as needed
- Exposure to wet, humid, or dusty conditions, loud equipment, and occasional animal proximity
- Primarily working in a workshop environment
- Must be comfortable working around water, salt, power tools, and animals
