Job Description:We are seeking a highly skilled Automation Engineer to lead the design, optimization, and reliability of automated material handling systems and warehouse control technologies at our state-of-the-art distribution centers in the division. This is a new and impactful role, ideal for a technically driven professional with a passion for automation, continuous improvement, and cross-functional leadership.
Location: This is an onsite position located at our distribution center in Albert Lea, MN. Relocation assistance may be provided for well qualified candidates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead engineering projects focused on automation, controls integration, and process optimization.
- Oversee maintenance operations, including equipment installation, repair, and preventative maintenance planning.
- Drive standardization and continuous improvement initiatives across facility systems and processes.
- Act as the subject matter expert for automation technologies, collaborating with project teams and operations leadership.
- Provide 24/7 support for diagnosing and resolving complex automation and controls issues.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, system specifications, and validation protocols.
- Support startup and commissioning of new systems, ensuring alignment with engineering standards and operational goals.
- Manage facility performance metrics, labor budgets, and cost-efficiency initiatives.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and innovation within the engineering and maintenance teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required.
- 3+ years of experience in Engineering, Maintenance, or Operations within a manufacturing or distribution environment.
- Proven leadership in managing engineering and maintenance teams, setting KPIs, and driving performance.
- Strong expertise in automation and controls systems, including:
- Allen Bradley, FactoryTalk, Logix 5000, RSLinx, Rockwell Software
- PLC and HMI programming/troubleshooting
- AB PowerFlex Series drives
- Intelligrated software development and troubleshooting
- Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, and other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Project management experience from concept through implementation.
- Willing to travel occasionally.
Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range: $70,000 USD - $107,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based sales incentive plan.
