Hours: Monday thru Friday, 7:30am - 4:30pm (Occasional Saturdays required)

The Waste Disposal and Recycling Center (WDRC) is a fast-paced environment at times, with a high volume of patrons that frequent the Convenience Center to properly dispose of materials and recycle. As the City of Durham continues to grow, volumes of customers and materials coming to the WDRC increases. Therefore, filling this position is critical to safe and effective operations.
The Maintenance Assistant assists in the daily operations of the Waste Disposal and Recycling Center. You will be required to assist, direct, and inform customers on the full and proper use of the various areas at Waste Disposal and Recycling Center. You will be assigned duties such as customer service and litter control as needed. Work is performed under general supervision. The hours and days for this position are Monday – Friday from 7:30am to 4:30pm and Saturdays from 7:30am to 12:30 pm, with one day off during the week assigned to you to offset Saturday hours.
Position Duties
- Assists in the daily operations of the Waste Disposal and Recycling Center.
- Assist, direct, and inform the public in full and proper use of the various areas at Waste Disposal and Recycling Center.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC).
- One year of maintenance or customer service experience related to assignment.
- A valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
- This position is critical to emergency operations and will report to work in spite of or because of an emergency or disaster event.
Other Qualifications
- Willing and able to work in various types of weather conditions (high temperatures, snow, rain, sleet, etc.).
- Willing and able to wear (PPE) as needed.
