We’re looking for a Senior Collections Agent (m/f/d)
The company
Imagine a world where every small business has the power to thrive. That's the world we're building at iwoca. Small businesses aren't just statistics – they're the heartbeat of our communities, the character of our high streets, and the engine of our economy. Since 2012, we've revolutionised how these businesses access finance, turning what was once a lengthy, frustrating process into something remarkable: funding that's fast, flexible, and actually works for modern businesses.
Our impact speaks for itself: we've provided billions in funding to over 150,000 businesses across Europe, making us one of the continent's leading fintech innovators. But we're just getting started. Our mission? To empower one million businesses with the financial tools they deserve.
We combine cutting-edge technology and data science with genuine human understanding to make finance feel less like a barrier and more like a superpower. Whether it's managing cash flow or seizing unexpected opportunities, we ensure businesses get the funds they need – often within minutes.
The Role
For our Collections Team, we are looking for an experienced Senior Collections Manager for either our office in Frankfurt or our new office in Berlin-Mitte. As a Senior Collections Manager, you will be part of the German Operations division at iwoca, one of Europe's most successful fintech companies.
We follow a consistent "customer first" approach, and your main task will be to negotiate with our customers (business owners) who are having difficulty repaying their loans. For more complex cases, you will collaborate with our paralegals, external lawyers, and other iwoca teams (e.g., Account Managers, Credit Analysis, etc.).
In this role, you will take on responsibility for your own customer portfolio early on, have a direct impact on the success of the German team, and have numerous opportunities for personal and professional development.
In addition to managing loan applications, you will have the opportunity to help shape and develop the future of the Collections Team. Managing projects alongside your daily work will allow you to explore your interests and further develop your skills.
Your responsibilities:
You will manage your own customer portfolio, speak with customers, and negotiate solutions that are optimal for both the customers and iwoca.
You will decide independently, within the framework of internal guidelines, on the best approach to find solutions with our customers.
You will be the interface between commercial dunning and judicial collection proceedings.
You will analyze the financial situation of our customers and develop the appropriate strategy to provide the best possible support.
You will improve collaboration and maintain relationships with various stakeholders (internal and external), such as lawyers, courts, or insolvency administrators.
You will be a "role model" for our values (smart, motivated, humble, growth mindset) and help shape the culture in our office.
You will work on cross-functional projects to optimize and implement processes.
We are looking for people who are smart, humble, and motivated, and who love to learn. You will work with customers from a wide variety of sectors, from hair salons to medical practices to law firms. To be successful in this role, the following ideally applies to you:
You have completed a commercial/legal apprenticeship or a (business administration) degree.
You have at least 5 years of professional experience—ideally in the financial sector—in a "customer-facing" collections position, either at a collections agency and/or a law firm.
You are an expert in both out-of-court and judicial collection proceedings and have some initial experience in enforcement and insolvency law.
You communicate confidently at all times, both in writing and on the phone.
You are very empathetic and have tact.
You have strong assertiveness to proceed in a goal-oriented manner even in difficult situations.
You have a high degree of negotiating skill with a "customer first" approach, and you find it easy to build a strong relationship with your customers.
You are proactive, curious, and constantly question cases and processes to ensure improvements—you enjoy and are motivated by innovation.
You are a true team player and are always ready to support your colleagues.
You have excellent German language skills, as well as good English skills, so that meetings in our international team are not a problem for you.
You enjoy working in an international team.
The salary
We expect to pay from €50.000 - €65.000 OTE for this role.
But, we’re open-minded, so definitely include your salary goals with your application. We routinely benchmark salaries against market rates, and run quarterly performance and salary reviews.
The culture
At iwoca, we prioritise a culture of learning, growth, and support, and invest in the professional development of our team members. We value diversity in thought and skill, and encourage you to explore new areas of interest to help us improve our products and services.
The offices
We put a lot of effort into making iwoca a brilliant place to work:
Offices in London, Leeds, Berlin, and Frankfurt with plenty of drinks and snacks
Events and clubs, like bingo, comedy nights, yoga classes, football, etc.
The benefits
A smart, motivated and international team (we represent over 35 different nationalities) with ridiculous growth-mindset.
26 days of vacation a year plus a free day for your birthday.
One-month fully paid sabbatical after 4 years.
Mental health support with direct access to certified psychologists via our partner OpenUp.
iwoca takes over a ski chalet in winter so that you and your team can ski or snowboard (and work) for a week. During summer we are drawn to the sun. We’ve been to France, Italy, Spain, and further afield.
Access to the gym membership program, €25 for either Fit711 or Urban Sports Club.
€25 contribution towards the Deutschlandticket.
Company Pension with Canada Life.
Great office locations. In Frankfurt in the beautiful Ostend, our Berlin office is located centrally at Hackescher Markt.
A paid volunteer day that gives you the opportunity to invest time to support a charity of your choice.
Corporate Benefits discounts.
’iwocans’ also benefit from fully stocked fridges in our offices with whatever is needed to strengthen them. There are snacks (both healthy and less healthy) for the whole day.
And to make sure we all keep learning, we offer:
A learning and development budget for everyone, including a book budget.
Learning German budget.
Company-wide talks with internal and external speakers.
Access to learning platforms like Treehouse.
