About the Department

Part-Time Position


Plan and lead quarterly youth pottery programs for ages 5-18 at the Bowman House Arts and Crafts Center to include creating a class syllabus, working with the Program Coordinator to procure supplies, managing rosters, collecting attendance and more.  Must have experience working with youth pottery programs including handbuilding and wheel, and a working knowledge of glazes and clay. The youth pottery instructor will be responsible for setting and enforcing expectations for behavior and conduct in class and any necessary follow up with parents and caregivers.  This position primarily works with youth, however, there will be potential opportunities to substitute for adult classes or add additional class support in the future.

Work Schedule:
1-2 weekdays per week (Monday-Saturday), 6-7 hours a week total. After school and evenings.

All new employees must satisfactorily complete a background check. A conditional offer of employment may then be made contingent upon the successful completion of drug and tuberculosis test.  

Position Duties

Typical Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Creates class syllabus
  • Prepares clay and tools for the students
  • Ensures student work is fired, glazed and picked up at the end of the session.
  • Ensures space is clean and safe
  • Reports any issues or broken equipment to the Program Coordinator
  • Performs related work as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Experience working with children and teens in a recreational or educational setting desired
  • Experience in organizing and implementing youth art programs or classes
  • Ability to stimulate interest in and direct a variety of recreational activities
  • CPR and AED certification preferred
  • Ability to communicate with the public, program participants and other employees in a pleasant and courteous manner and as required by the position
  • Ability to follow and understand oral and written instruction including reporting time, responding to emails, and participating in trainings and meetings
  • Provide field-specific expertise to guide and enhance volunteer contributions
