Description

The Roller Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Breakdown Rollers and Finish Rollers. The Roller Operator distributes, breaks down, compresses, and gives a finished surface to cooling asphalt.

Requirements


  • Operate the roller and other heavy equipment safely and appropriately.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
  • Maintain and ensure that the vehicle and equipment are stocked with needed materials.
  • Safely operate roller in successive overlapping passes over surfaces to be compacted, rolling asphalt to the desired compaction and smoothness.
  • Determine the speed and direction of the machine, based on knowledge of compressibility of material under changing temperatures, so that ridges do not form by excessive pressure.
  • Push hand roller and pound surfaces using a hand tamp or guide portable plate compactors over areas not accessible to a road roller.
  • Operate the Breakdown roller to achieve proper compaction.
  • Operate the Finish Roller in successive overlapping passes to apply the final finish, and remove imperfections with a finish roller
  • Serve as a crew member on jobsites, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned 

    

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • CDL A required
  • Willing to train
  • OSHA 10-hour certification is preferred but not required

  • Self-motivated, safety-minded, dependable, and detail-oriented 
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to comply with safety regulations
  • Adherence to the attendance policy  

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday. Extended hours, nights, and weekend work may be necessary based on business needs. While in season, the typical work week is approximately 40-50 hours.


Travel

This position may require occasional travel and out-of-town work.
