This is an onsite position. This role will not be remote. This is a union represented position.

POSITION PURPOSE 

The General Laborer is responsible for performing non-technical maintenance and servicing on corporation vehicles, as well as general custodial duties on vehicles, in the shop, and around building grounds.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

To be successful in this role, team members must be able to perform the functions listed below satisfactorily. The company will provide reasonable accommodation to enable team members with disabilities to perform these functions.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Perform general custodial tasks in designated work areas, including trash removal, sweeping, and mopping.
  • Operate custodial equipment such as vacuums, mops, small hand and power tools, and buffer/scrubbers.
  • Move furniture, file cabinets, desks, etc., as required.
  • Set up furniture, stages, mats, etc., for special events.
  • Clean and disinfect items and areas using basic household chemicals (e.g., bleach, disinfectant spray, dish soap).
  • Report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to appropriate authorities; report maintenance needs; respond to emergency custodial requests.
  • Perform snow removal and special work assignments or cleanups as directed.
  • Operate and maneuver 40-ft and 60-ft buses through facilities.
  • Inspect, test, and change tires to ensure conformance to standards.
  • Provide nightly non-technical maintenance to buses and non-commercial vehicles, including fueling, topping off fluids, and detailing.
  • Use high-pressure steam hoses and detergent solutions to clean bus engines and vehicle parts.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE 

To perform this job successfully, a team member must have the following requirement. 

  • Valid Driver’s License Required. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 

  • Ability to work in a deadline-oriented environment. 
  • Ability to work independently with work checked on a regular basis.  
  • Operational knowledge of mandated safety principles related to personal protective equipment, chemical hazards, lockout/tag out and general shop safety and cleanliness practices. 
  • Ability to interact with others, including groups, both in person and through phone, e-mail, and written correspondence.
  • Ability to make appropriate job decisions following standard procedures and policies.
  • Basic mathematical abilities (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). 
  • Basic computer skills. 
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage tasks and time effectively; and adapt to changes to changes in workload. 
  • Ability to deal courteously and effectively with supervisors and coworkers. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those team members must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The company will provide reasonable accommodation to enable team members with disabilities to perform these functions. 

  • Ability to move and position self to work in confined spaces, and to move throughout the workday, occasionally between departments and facilities. 
  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders and stairs to work on top of and beneath vehicles.
  • Ability to use tools to perform non-technical maintenance work, including removing and installing small parts and components and regularly adjusting, assembling, testing, and operating equipment (Some tools will be provided).
  • Ability to occasionally transport heavy items weighing up to 50 lbs. through the facility and to the work area.
  • Requires exposure to heavy machinery/equipment, excessive noise, extreme temperatures, fumes/odors, some hazardous materials, and dirt/dust. 
  • Must be able to pass all post offer physical testing and be able to complete all physical job functions as defined in the Functional Job Description. 
  • Ability to work night and weekend work shifts and overtime on a regular basis due to assignment shifts being picked bi-annually according to the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
