The engineering group at Stantec Plymouth, MN office works on various industrial processes, food and beverage, chemical, agricultural, and other manufacturing projects. From retrofit/upgrade projects to brownfield additions, to complete greenfield facility installations, we partner with clients through all phases of the project lifecycle to deliver high quality designs and outcomes.
The engineering group at Stantec downtown Minneapolis office works on variety projects such as water / wastewater treatment facilities, solid waste transfer stations, public works buildings and other municipal facilities and structures. Similar to the industrial work listed above, the projects are a combination of new greenfield projects as well as facility upgrades and expansions.
The structural team located in Minneapolis provides structural engineering and construction support for project types coming out of both engineering offices listed above, as well as other offices around the Midwest and the country.

As a Senior Structural Engineer and structural team leader at Stantec, you will utilize your technical skills in communications, problem solving, design and construction documentation, code analysis and engineering judgment in a fast-paced professional environment. Your Key Responsibilities
As a member of the Buildings Structural Team, your role covers a wide array of tasks and responsibilities, including technical design and production, project and personnel management, and business development. Briefly, these are summarized below.
Technical
- Provide technical expertise and guidance for project conception, design approach and work production.
- Perform structural design - produce construction drawings, project manuals, reports, etc.
- Perform site / facility field assessments and on-site construction inspection.
- Provide Quality Assurance/Quality Control reviews for work produced by team staff and others
Personnel Management and Administration
- Direct our Structural Team operations, best practices, and work production.
- Schedule and manage Team workload
- Implement and monitor design approach
- Staff management, training and development.
- Work with other discipline leads and management to provide business / billing projections and projected staff additions.
- Manage team financials.
- Review report staff performance evaluations
Business Development
- Manage and assist others in preparing professional service work scope proposals and estimated design fees.
- Participate in and develop Team marketing strategies and identify target markets and clients
- Network with others to develop leads and establish partnerships with internal and external clients.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
To successfully perform and meet the responsibilities of the Senior Structural Engineer position, the following capabilities and credentials are considered to be essential:
- Proven leadership skills that include leading, guiding and directing successful team outcomes
- Experience and knowledge of the design, analysis, inspection, and condition assessment of various building types and construction materials, including concrete, masonry, steel and wood.
- Working knowledge and familiarity with building codes and industry design standards, and related structural design software for industrial facilities and structures, buildings, tanks, floodwalls and retaining walls, dams, hydraulic structures, office buildings, public works buildings, above grade and below grade foundations, including deep foundations.
- Experience with finite-element analysis (FEA) and an understanding of how FEA can be applied to complex structural engineering problems.
- Excellent organization, project management and communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to work in a team environment and help lead project and proposal efforts.
- Skill and knowledge to create, suggest, and introduce innovative and effective client solutions.
Education and Experience
- The following requirements are considered to be the minimum for this position:
- Minimum 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering required, Master’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience related to Structural Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, is required.
- Professional Engineer (P.E. and/or S.E.)
- Proficient in the use of structural design software such as Tekla TSD, STAAD-Pro or other design software.
Typical office environment, working with computers and drawings for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to hazards including construction, weather, and industrial operations that may be experienced at industrial facilities and water and/or wastewater related facilities.
The expectation is the structural team lead will work from the Plymouth or Minneapolis office and generally will be in the office a minimum of 3 days per week.
