Provide the direction and leadership for the day-to-day operations (physical, human, financial) of the Travis County Medical Society in the accomplishment of goals and objectives and promoting the professional image and development of all areas of responsibility. Responsibilities include overall administration and control of the Society’s activities; for example, implementing policies, programs, and initiatives established by the Executive Board.  

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Executive Board providing leadership and direction in developing and implementing the organization’s strategic plan and priorities as expressed through bylaws, policies, resolutions, or actions of the Board.  
  • Serve as a stimulus for innovation and progress for the Society and its operations.
  • Implement actions of, provide staff support for, and serve as an advisor to the society’s Executive Board and Board of Ethics, its delegation to the TMA, and its standing, annual, and ad hoc committees. 
  • Provide data, insight, and options to facilitate Board’s informed decision making.
  • Work with Board Presidents to develop and execute agendas for Board meetings.
  • Oversee the conduct of the Society’s official business including meetings, conferences, elections, and other activities such as administrative assistance, correspondence, and record keeping.
  • Maintain custody of all Society documents and records including membership information.
  • Manage the finances of the organization including oversight of financial performance of all related business initiatives; ensure timely and accurate preparation of budgets, progress reports, and required filings. Regularly consult with those responsible for financial affairs, such as staff, outside consultants, or Board designees.
  • Establish and maintain an effective organizational structure with clearly defined roles, responsibilities, and reporting relationships that ensure accountability. 
  • Provide leadership and direction in developing and retaining competent, high-performing, and professional staff; hire, direct, and evaluate staff; oversee matters of recruitment, salary, and policy.
  • Provide leadership in establishing and accomplishing operational goals and objectives. Direct program activities (advocacy, communications, outreach, marketing, membership, physician programs) of the Society to assure objectives are attained and needs of the membership are met.
  • Maintain close working relationships with the Society’s members, organizations founded by the Society, Texas Medical Association, other Texas medical societies, American Medical Association, and local health care and community leaders. 
  • Represent the organization in the community, industry groups, professional organizations, membership, and general public. Build awareness and name recognition accordingly.
  • Ensure that exceptional customer service is provided both internally and externally.

  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Skills, Education, & Experience:

  • College degree in related field required. Prefer master degree or higher. 
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of management experience at the senior level within an association, nonprofit, and/or health care organization.
  • Exposure to working with Boards and committees for consensus and  achieving organizational goals.
  • Understanding of medical community and legislation impact on the quality of health care preferred.
  • Strong strategic planning, business, and financial experience with proven results.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and written and excellent presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop relationships, partnerships, and support collaboration across organizations.
  • Must have staff management experience, be team oriented with the ability to lead by example.
  • Must have the ability to handle difficult situations and deal with sensitive and highly confidential information.
  • Must have strong computer skills and knowledge.
  • Must be at least 21 years old, have a valid Texas driver’s license, acceptable driving record and proof of liability insurance.
