Doctor of Physical Therapy Full-Time Faculty Description

South College invites applications for full-time (12 months) Assistant or Associate Professor core faculty in the hybrid Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at the South College Nashville campus. While relocation to Nashville is encouraged, it is not required for all positions.


Our specific needs are for an experienced core faculty member with Board-certification in Cardiopulmonary Care (Geriatric Certified Applicants will also be considered). Our ideal applicant would also possess contemporary expertise in wound care as well. For this position a terminal academic degree is not required.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver appropriate distance education and onsite lab immersive learning experiences that allow students to achieve course objectives.
  • Develop and deliver appropriate assessments of student performance using both traditional methods (e.g., written tests, practical examinations, etc.) and nontraditional methods (e.g., forum discussions, video demonstrations, etc.), as appropriate.
  • Maintain current records of student participation and grades in the course.
  • Provide quality academic performance feedback to students in a timely manner.
  • Review of student and faculty course evaluations.
  • Scheduling and conducting a faculty team post course analysis meeting to discuss course strengths, weaknesses, and areas to sustain or improve.
  • Ensure all teaching and education responsibilities provide for compliance with accreditation policies and procedures.
  • Engage in scholarly works that contribute to the profession in accordance with CAPTE guidelines.
  • Engage in service activities in the department, school, institution and profession, including committee work, ad hoc task forces, and leadership roles commensurate with faculty rank.

This position is hybrid with the requirement to be on campus in Nashville, TN during lab immersion sessions. While relocation to Nashville is encouraged, it is not required for this position.


Requirements

Education:

  • Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree, an academic doctorate in Physical Therapy, or an academic doctorate (PhD, EdD, DSc) in a related field
  • ABPTS Board certification in Cardiopulmonary Care (but GCS will be considered) and/or substantial evidence of contemporary expertise as demonstrated with continuing education.
  • Active Physical Therapy license, or eligibility for licensure, in the State of Tennessee

Experience

  • Prior experience teaching in a CAPTE accredited Doctor of Physical Therapy program
  • A minimum of three years of full time (or equivalent) post-licensure clinical practice
  • Understanding of higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for leadership in physical therapy education
  • Able to travel overnight or for extended periods to Nashville for lab and student events
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for teaching and working in an inclusive team environment

Desired skills:

  • Knowledge of CAPTE accreditation standards
  • Evidence of an active research and scholarly agenda.
  • Strong organizational and technology skills, and a willingness to adapt to changing assignments, multiple priorities, and deadlines.
  • South College is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and who have a demonstrated commitment to improving the levels of access and success for underrepresented students within higher education.
  • Evidence of or potential for achieving excellence in teaching and project management.
  • A commitment to interdisciplinary education in health sciences.
  • Involvement as a member of a national/international professional association related to discipline.
