The engineer I performs specific engineering tasks and assignments in support of planning, estimating, project management, designing, materials procurement and construction and maintenance of additions to MidAmerican Energy Company's natural gas facilities. Responsibilities include applying prescribed methods and standard practices in performing specific tasks within projects and assisting engineering staff on more complex projects. This is the first level in the engineer career path.
This is a multi-level posting. Candidates may be considered for any of the posted levels, depending on their level of experience and depth of expertise.
Responsibilities
Provide engineering services for the planning, design, construction and maintenance of project additions to MidAmerican Energy Company's natural gas facilities. (50%) Provide technical project management for certain phases of a project including scheduling, design, estimates, engineering specifications, drawings, materials procurement, construction contracts, cost tracking and project cost projections. (20%) Assist with engineering studies and investigations and assist with preparing oral and written reports. (20%) Provide engineering assistance to other departments and perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (10%) Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning. Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques. Evaluate present practices and implement processes, concepts, training and tools to prevent, detect and correct human errors that may adversely impact the safe, reliable operation of the natural gas transmission and distribution system.
Qualifications
This is a multi-level posting.
Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
The engineer II position requires at least one year of engineering experience.
The senior engineer position requires at least five years of engineering experience.
The senior engineer II position requires eight years of industry experience and a PE license. If no PE license, must have ten years as a practicing engineer.
The principal engineer position requires fifteen years of industry experience as a practicing engineer, with experience performing highly technical work of a specialized nature.
Ability to achieve accreditation in corrosion control as defined by the National Association of Corrosion Engineers.

Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Working knowledge of federal and state pipeline regulations, including the transmission and distribution integrity rules.
Working knowledge of MidAmerican Energy Company systems that support transmission and distribution integrity efforts, including ArcGIS, Uptime, Synergi, MRP, Leak, WMIS, Oracle, and Delivery Compliance.
Effective organizational skills to meet strict deadlines and to analyze, manage and classify large amounts of data.
