Additional Information: Show/Hide Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in north Seattle, Washington, is currently recruiting for a Middle School trip leader for our Global Service Learning Program.Through active service and study, Lakeside’s 5-12 Global Service Learning Program seeks to develop in students an awareness of, respect for, and understanding of diverse cultural communities as well as the common issues facing our local, regional and global community. The MS GSL program combines on-site service learning with a cultural immersion experience where Eighth grade students travel to one of six sites within driving distance of Seattle and learn about global issues affecting that community. Examples include learning from indigenous communities on the Olympic Peninsula, immigrant farm communities in central Washington, and from non-profits in Spokane, Washington that support refugee resettlement in the area. In each location, students learn from local partners and work alongside community members to gain a holistic understanding of daily life, culture, and complex issues facing each community. The experiences are integrated with the academic curriculum across the disciplines before, during and following the trips. The program serves as a leadership opportunity and a culmination of experiences that students have had in the fifth, sixth, and seventh grade Service-Learning and Outdoor Programs.
Responsibilities
MS GSL trip leaders collaborate with two other trip leaders to lead and execute all aspects of the trip while on site and away from campus for 6 days. They will also contribute to some pre-trip logistical planning and collaborate on all curriculum. Trip leaders will report to the MS GSL Manager and the Director of Experiential Education.
Trip Dates: October 12-17, 2025 with two on-campus prep days on October 9-10, 2025
Requirements and Qualifications
Ability to drive students in a school vehicle or rental vehicle; Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification.
Previous experience working with Middle School students and enthusiasm for this age group is highly desired. Previous experience as a trip leader with this age group is also preferred.
Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidate will understand different perspectives; interact respectfully with cultures other than their own; and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks.
Satisfactory completion of at least two criminal background checks.
Compensation and Benefits
Stipend: $260-$300/day for each trip off-campus day; DOE; $200/ day for prep days Lakeside School is committed to attracting and retaining outstanding employees by providing a competitive compensation package. Individuals will receive a stipend that is based on their completion of required pre and post-meetings, training sessions and the assigned trip. Travel reimbursement will be limited and established prior to position appointment.
