Direct Support Professional Full time 32.5 hours per week Non-Exempt Torrington
Pay Rate: $17.25 per hour The position is open until filled / Anticipated start date is immediate
Job Description: Due to a bona fide occupational qualification (safety reasons and the specific needs of the individual), EdAdvance is seeking male candidates for this position. A Direct Support Professional will assist individuals who meet eligibility criteria set by The Department of Developmental Services, to have success in the Day Supports Options Program. The Direct Support Professional reports to the Program Manager and/or the Program Coordinator.
Major Responsibilities:
Provide direct supports to DDS funded individuals as described in their programs and as needed and appropriate
Plan and implement appropriate activities for the individuals in the program both in the community and on site.
Assist manager in the screening of referrals.
Safely transport individuals supported and maintain the agency vehicle.
Train and supervise individuals on the volunteer/job sites and promote positive work habits.
Maintain a safe working environment.
Maintain timely and accurate documentation; document performance; write reports as required, and complete any necessary data entry required by the funding source.
Network and collaborate with other providers, families of individuals supported, and the community.
Maintain all appropriate and required licenses, certifications, and training.
May need to transport individuals supported in own vehicle.
Some lifting may be required
Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this job.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of related state and federal regulations.
Valid CT driver’s license and auto insurance.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to perform a physical restraint or willing to be trained.
Some physical activities include, but are not limited to lifting, pushing, pulling, and alternate sit/stand
Qualifications/Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or related field preferred.
Valid CT driver’s license and auto insurance.
Demonstrate leadership skills including effective problem solving, planning, and organizing.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
Requires pushing pulling
Must be able to perform essential functions with or without accommodations
