Additional Information: Show/Hide CASS LAKE-BENA SCHOOL DISTRICT #115 TITLE Chemical Dependency Counselor SUPERVISOR Superintendent JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible in part for coordination of all elements of Safe and Drug Free School, Highest Needs Program which includes direct services to students and interagency networking. ASSIGNMENT Exempt Employee 9 Months – 8 Hour Shift
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES 1. The following duties are normal for this classification. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. A. Identifying students and their families who have problems related to abuse of alcohol and drugs, provide individual and family counseling or make referrals to appropriate agencies. B. Plan, develop and provide in-service training for students, parents, staff and community. C. Acts as mediator between patients, relatives, medical staff, and outside agencies if needed. D. Provide instruction and curriculum development in alcohol/drug prevention and intervention. E. Cooperate with and coordinate services with other area programs/agencies. F. Tracks patient progress and dispensation of treatment services. G. Knowledge of Rule 25 chemical use assessments, identifying the recipient’s specific areas of need relating to chemical use and risk description.
CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE 1. Physical Involvement A. Position requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle and a variety of office equipment. B. Position requires the ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limbs in performing movements requiring moderate skill, such as typing. C. Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of objects weighting five to ten pounds. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. 2. Mental Involvement A. Position requires ability complete tasks and meeting deadlines despite constant interruptions B. Position requires the ability to perform basic level of data analysis including the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize and/or reference data, statutes and/or guidelines and/or group, rank, investigate and diagnose. Requires discretion in determining and referencing such to establish standards to recognize interactive effects and relationships. C. Position requires the ability to persuade, convince, influence, train and monitor, in favor of a desired outcome. Requires the ability to act as a lead person. D. Position requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information such as student records/files, attendance records, contact logs, a variety of activity reports, incident reports, referral forms, academic advisor reports, student handbook, college catalogs, vocational interest test results and correspondence. E. Requires the ability to communicate orally and in writing with students, parents, teachers, school administrators, community representatives, business representatives, social service providers and post-secondary educators.
WORKING CONDITIONS 1. Work is performed in an office environment under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to irate individuals poses a very limited risk of injury.
SUPERVISION OF OTHER EMPLOYEES 1. This position does not include supervision or work direction of other employees.
QUALIFICATIONS 1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Chemical Dependency Counseling or other appropriate certifications. 2. Good organizational and communication skills and the ability to interact with the public. 3. Valid Minnesota Driver’s License. 4. Must complete the necessary application process and pass a criminal background check and drug screening test.
