Function: The Health Careers instructor, working directly under the Principal of WHS/WACTC, shall help to develop in each student an insight and understanding of the Health Careers industry and its place in our society and build career and technical skills in Health Careers that will prepare each student for college and career readiness in the 21st century/
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Develop effective lesson plans and ensure they are always available for substitutes' use and administrators' reference.
Prepares and distributes a yearly course syllabus to students and parents.
Demonstrates occupational materials, equipment, tools, technology, and processes using standard or teacher-prepared models, mock-ups, sketches, and other instructional aids.
Establishes and maintains the standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment in a project-based classroom with some potential hazards.
Maintains control of storage and use of tools, materials, and property to prevent loss or abuse and requests repairs as needed.
Evaluate each student’s performance, knowledge, and skills using a standardized, competency-based curriculum.
Provides individual and group instruction appropriate to the needs of the student (s) and the requirements of the activities being performed.
Maintains professional competence through professional development activities provided by the district, state, or national organizations.
Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, equipment, tools, technology, supplies, and parts as required, working under established budget and procedures.
Keeps complete and accurate records of student grades and attendance and updates information in a timely manner.
Communicates with parents.
Collaborates with guidance counselors on individual student’s progress and the program's recruiting process.
Helps supervise the conduct and welfare of all students on school premises and grounds.
Develops and/or revises rigorous curricula aligned to industry and Common Core State Standards in collaboration with colleagues, the Principal of WHS/WACTC, and the Director of Curriculum.
Integrates technology (computer diagnostics, laptops, computer/projectors) appropriately into the Health Careers Program curricula.
Develops, maintains, and strengthens existing Health Careers partnerships.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned and are consistent with this position.
Required Qualifications:
A minimum of 3 years of related experience
Current Rhode Island Department of Health Registered Nurse license and completion of Professional Development every 2 years
Must hold or be willing to pursue a CTE RIDE Health Instructors certification
Experience in long-term care experience
Proficiency in using computer-based systems, including but not limited to Google and Microsoft products.
Preferred Qualifications:
American Red Cross certified trainer in First Aid/CPR/AED
Previous experience as an instructor or teacher
