General Summary:

Do you want to make a difference in the lives of children and families in your community? As a Youth & Family Caseworker I, you will provide vital support to children and families navigating challenging situations. In Casework Services you’ll conduct assessments, provide crisis intervention, recommend treatment alternatives, and ensure each client receives the care and services they need. This role blends investigative work, family support, and community collaboration to create lasting positive change.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Conduct interviews with children and families using validated assessment tools and gather background information to identify behavioral and emotional needs.
  • Provide crisis intervention and identify treatment alternatives.
  • Prepare reports and progress summaries, manage casework, and refer clients to community resources.
  • Support specialized services such as juvenile probation, treatment courts, delinquency prevention programs, or recreational outings.
  • Deliver presentations and testify in court proceedings to provide information, recommendations, and case updates.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

At the time of application, applicants must:

  1. Have a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in criminal justice, psychology, social work, counseling or closely related area;
    AND

    NOTE: Applicants possessing transcripts from a college or university outside of the United States will be required to provide documentation of degree equivalency from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (http://naces.org/members.html). The degree evaluation will be required for application processing.

  2. Have had one (1) year full-time casework experience involving gathering individual and family social data and developing recommendations within a legal environment.

  3. Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license. Out of Country driver’s license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver’s license before the hire date.

  4. Pass the complete examination, including the employment physical established, for this classification.

  5. Successfully complete the six-month probationary period.
Special Requirements:
  1. Compliance with the Adoption Code regarding client and adoption record confidentiality.
  2. Must maintain a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.
  3. Employees of this classification may be required to provide their own vehicle for personal transportation. Employees who use their own vehicle for County purposes are eligible to receive mileage reimbursement.
