The Health Educator I – Community Embedded Disease Investigation Specialist (CEDIS) assists HIV-negative individuals accessing education to prevent Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD), linkage to care, testing and treatment for STDs through intensive follow-ups, and support The CEDIS provides Partner Services, including counseling, notification, and treatment verification, and linkage to care and treatment of HIV and STDs. Additionally, this position will assist clients with services such as, but not limited to, treatment referrals, appointment scheduling, reminders, and ongoing retention in care. The CEDIS works in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Department of HIV and STD Programs (DHSP) and NEVHC's healthcare providers, fostering cooperative and effective partnerships.

Reports to:    HIV Program Manager / HIV Programs Administrator

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in public health or related field.

2. Three years of experience working with LGBTQ+ populations in HIV/STD prevention programs, preferred

3. HIV counseling and testing experience, preferred

4. Effective verbal and written communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and medical providers.

5. Ability to complete work assignments with minimal supervision, thoroughness, timeliness, and efficiency.

6. Must have a pleasant, patient-oriented attitude and a professional appearance.

7. Sensitivity and respect to the different cultures represented among all staff.

8. Knowledge of the health disparities spectrum of HIV/STDs, health literacy, harm reduction theory, behavior modification theory, human sexuality, substance use, outreach strategies, health and social concerns of individuals at risk of HIV/STD transmission, and sexual assault.

9. Demonstrated ability to set priorities for tasks to work effectively despite interruptions and under minimal supervision.   Self-starter, reliable, and dependable.

10. Hold a Covered CA Certified Enrollment Counselor (CEC) certification, or obtain such certification within 90 days of hire.

11. Certified HIV Counseling Testing or obtain such certification within 90 days of hire.

12. Fluency in English (speaks, reads, and writes).

13. Fluency in Spanish (speaks, translates, reads, and writes).

14. Problem-solving skills and the ability to make routine recommendations.

15. Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality about health care and other patient/client information.

16. Must possess a current California driver's license, reliable means of transportation, appropriate insurance coverage, and a driving record acceptable to the NEVHC's insurance carrier (if required to drive on the job).

17. Flexible to work evenings and weekends.
