Summary
GLWA Water Operations is seeking a Director- Water Engineering to plan and direct all aspects of engineering activities and projects related to water treatment and transmission system. Ensure all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes comply with GLWA’s established policies and objectives.Job Responsibilities
• Identify, delineate and propose solutions to difficult administrative challenges
• Confer with leadership team members on policy interpretation, activities, procedures, problems, and required action to ensure efficient and economical operations in compliance with policies, rules, laws, and legal provisions
• Review and recommend action on policies and programs formulated by leadership in connection with operations
• Analyze relevant data including, but not limited to, statistics, cost and work reports to evaluate efficiency, develop and coordinate plans and procedures to increase efficiency.
• Inspect facilities and operations to identify and prioritize response to problems
• Direct the work of administrative team members and managers
• Direct the preparation and management of group’s budget
• Prepare and present data to Executive Leadership, board members and GLWA customers
• Represent the organization and official contacts in public forums
• Follow security and safety policies and procedures in carrying out work duties
• Maintain a valid Michigan Driver’s License and the ability to drive a motor vehicle on all terrain
• Provide on the job training
Required Education and Experience
At the time of application; applicants must:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemistry, business administration, public administration or related discipline
• A minimum of five (5) years of recent and progressive managerial and administrative experience, including staffing, budgeting, project management, and operational experience in a specialty designation, preferably in connection with large-scale public or private operations.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master’s degree from an accredited college in information technology, computer science, engineering, or related area
- Managed integration effort of a water or wastewater system construction project over $10,000,000
- Certifications that are related to technology, security, and water operations
- PE Certification
Other Requirements
- A valid Driver’s License and the ability to drive a motor vehicle on all terrain
- Ability to work irregular hours, to commute to GLWA facilities and work sites
- Follow security and safety policies and procedures in carrying out work duties
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job. This position requires the ability to climb, bend, twist, carry, stack, push, pull and other efforts requiring considerable physical strength. This position also requires the ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds, walk, stand, or work for long periods of time, demonstrate normal color perception, hear audible alarms, detect abnormal equipment sounds, visually inspect equipment and processes at any time of the day or night. Employees may be required to wear respiratory protection and other personal protective equipment. Employees may also be required to pass a vision test, yearly baseline physical and fit test for respirator/Self Contained Breathing Apparatus.
Environmental Working Requirements:
Work is performed in a plant or office environment with exposure to computer screens, working in team offices and closely with all staffing levels. Work may be performed near open water, systems with hazardous chemicals that are acidic, highly corrosive, heat producing and potentially explosive. Work may be performed in confined spaces, hazardous areas that require respiratory protection and personal protective equipment (PPE), and under slippery and wet conditions.
