About the Role:
The Communications Specialist is the hands-on digital storyteller for the school division. Working in a part-time hybrid capacity, sometimes virtual, sometimes on-site, this role ensures our schools’ stories are told consistently and engagingly across social media, the website, and other digital platforms.
The position offers flexibility but also requires availability during evenings and weekends to cover events, push out urgent updates, and ensure the division’s communication stays responsive in real time. Responsibilities:
- Manage the division’s social media channels and website with timely, accurate, and engaging content.
- Schedule, post, and monitor daily updates across the division’s digital platforms.
- Work closely with the Technology Department to troubleshoot website issues and provide quality control for content across the division’s digital platforms.
- Create graphics, videos, posts, newsletters, and web stories that highlight student and staff initiatives and celebrations.
- Capture events through photos, video, and live coverage, including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Translate complex updates into plain-language, family-friendly communication.
- Ensure consistency with brand standards across all digital platforms.
- Stay current on best practices and trends in digital media.
- Partner with principals, teachers, and staff to identify and amplify success stories from schools.
- Provide real-time support for urgent communication needs, including emergencies and high-profile events.
- Collaborate closely with the Director of Strategic Communications to ensure tactical execution aligns with district strategy.
Desired Characteristics, Skills & Experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong time management and ability to juggle multiple priorities.
- At least three years of experience in social media marketing and digital content creation.
- Creative storyteller who can bring energy and authenticity to school stories.
- Detail-oriented, reliable, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative with the ability to build trusted relationships across the organization.
- Comfortable working both independently (virtually) and in-person at schools or events.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends as needed.
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Hours/Week: Approximately 28 hours/week
Hiring Range: $25-$30/hour DOE/DOQ
Start Date: On or around early October 2025
Reports To: Director of Strategic Communications
