Position Title: Middle School Boys Soccer Coach Location: Massabesic Middle School Department: Athletics Reports To: Athletic Director, in conjunction with the Principal
Position Summary
The Middle School Boys Soccer Coach is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, and organization of the soccer program at Massabesic Middle School. The coach will foster skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship while creating a positive, safe, and inclusive team culture. This individual will work closely with the athletic department to ensure compliance with RSU 57 policies, Southern Maine Middle School Athletic Conference (SMMSAC) guidelines, and the overall philosophy of the district’s athletic program.
Qualifications
Knowledge and background in soccer (coaching and/or playing experience preferred).
Meets RSU 57 eligibility requirements, including:
First Aid Training
CPR Certification
Concussion Management Course
Heat & Acclimatization Course
RSU 57 Background Check
Maine Department of Education Criminal History Record Check
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively with middle school students, parents/guardians, and staff.
Must complete all district- and state-required coaching certifications/training.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and lead practices that build players’ technical skills, tactical understanding, conditioning, and teamwork.
Teach and model positive sportsmanship, respect, and citizenship both on and off the field.
Supervise athletes at all practices, games, and team events to ensure safety and well-being.
Create and enforce appropriate team rules and expectations.
Promote academic achievement by reinforcing the importance of schoolwork, attendance, and character development.
Maintain, inventory, and properly store athletic equipment and uniforms; report needs to the athletic director.
Ensure safe playing conditions by checking facilities and equipment regularly.
Encourage leadership development among student-athletes.
Communicate promptly and appropriately with athletes, parents/guardians, and staff.
Participate in pre-season informational meetings with families and attend all meetings required by the school and MPA.
Interact effectively and respectfully with game officials.
Model professional behavior, including appropriate dress and conduct at practices and competitions.
Stay current on coaching techniques, strategies, and safety protocols through professional learning.
Complete required paperwork, records, and reports accurately and on time.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Activities Director or Principal.
Commitment
Attend all practices, games, and team-related events during the fall soccer season.
Dedicate time outside of practice for planning, communication, and preparation.
