The Manager, Commercial Underwriting Operations, is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of a team of underwriters and team leaders. This role ensures the effective execution of underwriting strategies, supports broker relationships, and contributes to the profitable growth of the Commercial Insurance portfolio. The Manager plays a key role in maintaining underwriting integrity, coaching team members, and driving operational excellence. 

​​The Commercial Underwriting Manager reports directly to the Director of Commercial Underwriting Operations. Team Leaders are direct reports to the Commercial Underwriting Manager and each Team Leader has a team of underwriters reporting to them.

What you will do:

  • ​​Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and MGAs. 
  • ​Act as a point of contact for underwriting decisions and accommodation requests. 
  • ​Support the development of new business opportunities in collaboration with Business Development. 
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and career development support to underwriters and team leaders. 
  • ​Identify training needs and collaborate with Corporate Underwriting to deliver appropriate learning solutions. 
  • ​Support performance management processes including development plans and improvement initiatives. 
  • ​​Ensure team adherence to underwriting guidelines, appetite changes, and product updates. 
  • Provide input on product development and strategy execution.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and strategic alignment.
  • ​​Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and service delivery. 
  • ​Leverage technology and workflow tools to optimize underwriting operations. 
  • ​Monitor team performance against service level agreements and adjust workflows as needed.

  • 10+ years of commercial underwriting experience having both P&C and Auto is an asset
  • 5+ years of leadership experience is preferred

Location:
We’re a hybrid team that thrives on the energy and value of in-office collaboration. This role offers the best of both worlds, with 2 days a week spent in our vibrant offices in Cambridge.
