ESOL tutor at Stratford High School
Responsibilities:
Provide Individualized and Small-Group Instruction Support English Learners (ELs) with tailored lessons that target reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English.
Support Academic Content Learning Assist students in understanding grade-level curriculum across subjects by scaffolding instruction, pre-teaching vocabulary, and clarifying concepts in accessible English.
Develop and Adapt Learning Materials Create and adapt instructional resources (worksheets, practice activities, graphic organizers, etc.) that meet students’ English proficiency levels and learning needs.
Promote Language Development Encourage students to practice English through conversation, collaborative tasks, and academic discussions, while also validating and building upon their home languages and cultural backgrounds.
Monitor Student Progress Track students’ growth in English language skills and academic achievement through informal assessments, observations, and feedback. Communicate progress with teachers, parents, and supervisors.
Reinforce Study and Organizational Skills Teach strategies for note-taking, summarizing, test preparation, and managing assignments to help multilingual learners succeed in mainstream classes.
Foster a Positive, Inclusive Learning Environment Build trust with students by creating a supportive, respectful, and culturally responsive space that encourages risk-taking in language learning.
Collaborate with Teachers and Staff Work closely with ESOL teachers, content-area teachers, and school staff to align support with students’ Individualized Language Plans and district/state language learning standards.
Support College and Career Readiness Provide guidance and resources for ELs as they prepare for standardized tests, post-secondary opportunities, and career pathways.
Maintain Professionalism and Confidentiality Follow school and district policies, respect student confidentiality, and participate in professional learning related to ESL strategies, cultural competency, and equity.
Rate of pay: $35/hour
Days of the week: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 5 hours a day
