The Shop Director will lead and coordinate the production within the shop to reach the respective targets within the different areas. You will be part of the VCCH (Volvo Car Charleston) Management Team and report to the Plant Manager – VCCH. You will enforce the Volvo Cars’ culture.

What you'll do

  • Responsible for establishing, ramp-up and managing of Paint Shop in VCCH. Cascading and setting goals and priorities to deliver the planned results  
  • Collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering to develop and secure the best technologies, techniques and manufacturing processes 
  • Support and coach managers and teams to achieve targets 
  • Operate according to company compliance standards (BMS, VCMS, ISO 9001 & 14001) 
  • Recognize achievements and handle people management issues 
  • Plan and manager resources
  • Take responsibility for establishing working methods in order to ensure that the products/processes fulfill the demands for Quality, Delivery, Cost, Environment and Safety.
  • Participate and contribute to VCCH Personnel Development Committee, (which includes succession planning, performance management process and personnel development).
  • Ensure that the work environment is safe and safety rules are respected.
  • Train and develop the organization to reach and maintain the highest level of competencies.
  • Ensure the implementation of and adherence to VCMS (Volvo Car Manufacturing System) within the entire shop.
  • Produce and deliver products according to specifications using continuous improvement and problem-solving tools
  • Work towards an excellent relationship within the VCCH shops and with other Volvo units worldwide.
  • Work towards a lean organization.

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
  • 8-10 years of experience in a senior leadership role
  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing industry, preferably in automotive
  • 5+ years paint shop experience
  • Strong understanding of lean manufacturing processes and systems
  • Launch experience required
  • Experienced in scaling teams and processes during periods of production ramp-ups
  • Excellent leadership and cross-functional team management experience
  • Strategic thinking and goal-oriented
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build a team, confidence and trust at all levels of the organization
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Experience in managing large teams
