About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our accounting team in a dynamic manufacturing environment. This role is essential to maintaining accurate financial records and supporting key accounting functions including reconciliations, journal entries, accounts payable/receivable, banking, monthly close processes, analysis and reporting. The ideal candidate will also assist with multi-state sales tax compliance and contribute to projects and process improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Support accounts payable and receivable; back up invoicing and sales order processing
- Assist with customer credit reviews, commission processing, and daily banking
- Ensure compliance with multi-state sales tax; manage filings and exemption certificates
- Prepare and post journal entries; reconcile general ledger and bank accounts
- Participate in monthly and annual close processes
- Analyze financial data, resolve discrepancies and prepare variance reports
- Maintain and develop Excel-based tracking and reporting tools
- Support internal controls and assist with annual audits
- Lead or contribute to accounting process improvement projects and ERP optimization
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide backup support as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Controller
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a multi-state sales environment
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, queries)
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Sage 100)
- Hands-on experience with AP, AR, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close
- Familiarity with multi-state sales tax compliance
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and communication abilities
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the manufacturing industry
- Familiarity with AvaTax, sales tax and exemption certificate management
- Background in process improvement and accounting system enhancements
- Exposure to budgeting, pricing, or software implementations a plus
