Staff Accountant at HI-TECH TRANSPORT ELECTRONICS INC

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our accounting team in a dynamic manufacturing environment. This role is essential to maintaining accurate financial records and supporting key accounting functions including reconciliations, journal entries, accounts payable/receivable, banking, monthly close processes, analysis and reporting. The ideal candidate will also assist with multi-state sales tax compliance and contribute to projects and process improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Support accounts payable and receivable; back up invoicing and sales order processing
• Assist with customer credit reviews, commission processing, and daily banking
• Ensure compliance with multi-state sales tax; manage filings and exemption certificates
• Prepare and post journal entries; reconcile general ledger and bank accounts
• Participate in monthly and annual close processes
• Analyze financial data, resolve discrepancies and prepare variance reports
• Maintain and develop Excel-based tracking and reporting tools
• Support internal controls and assist with annual audits
• Lead or contribute to accounting process improvement projects and ERP optimization
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide backup support as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Controller

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a multi-state sales environment
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, queries)
• Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Sage 100)
• Hands-on experience with AP, AR, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close
• Familiarity with multi-state sales tax compliance
• Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and communication abilities
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the manufacturing industry
• Familiarity with AvaTax, sales tax and exemption certificate management
• Background in process improvement and accounting system enhancements
• Exposure to budgeting, pricing, or software implementations a plus
