About the Department


The City of Glendora is excited to announce an opportunity to join our newly launched Community Impact Team as a Crime Analyst. This vital role supports law enforcement operations through real-time data collection and analysis, directly contributing to community safety and informed decision-making. Working in this role, the Crime Analyst monitors camera feeds, license plate readers, and law enforcement databases to deliver timely, actionable intelligence to officers during rapidly evolving incidents. Position Duties

Under general supervision, performs a variety of difficult and complex professional and analytical assignments providing pertinent information relative to crime patterns, trend correlations, and real time analytics to assist operational and administrative personnel in the Police Department. Collects, analyzes, and disseminates statistics; performs systematic and analytical processes directed at planning the deployment of resources for preventing and suppressing criminal activities, aiding the investigative process, increasing apprehensions, clearing cases, and analyzing information to identify similarities, patterns, and trends among different offenses to assist in identifying suspects and predicting criminal activity, and performs other related duties, as assigned.


Some of the typical duties of the Crime Analyst include, but are not limited to, the following: 


  1. Identifies and collects pertinent statistics and data from department crime reports, field interview cards, department computer databases, and state and federal databases; audits and maintains quality control of crime analysis data.
  2. Utilizes multiple computer systems and software programs to store, collate, retrieve, and present information.
  3. Researches and compiles target-suspect profiles, suspect-crime correlations, and offender characteristics; analyzes information to identify similarities and patterns among different offenses; assists in identifying suspects and predicting criminal activity.
  4. Initiates and disseminates crime analysis reports, bulletins and data related to crime series, trends, patterns, and suspect individuals to department personnel to enhance directed patrol and investigative activity.
  5. Prepares charts, graphs, and written reports of specific crimes by area and section; prepares maps of specific crimes by area utilizing geographic information systems (GIS) software.
  6. Testifies in court or other proceedings.
  7. Makes public presentations to professional, community and neighborhood organizations.  
  8. Assists with the development of agency tactics, strategies, and planning in response to crime trends; creates or modifies existing programs aimed at targeting specific problem areas and addressing specific series, patterns, and trends.
  9. Maintains historical statistics and crime trends and comparisons; develops and provides special crime analysis reports including quarterly statistical and monthly activity reports.
  10. Assists Department personnel in monitoring and tracking criminal activity, trends, and developing methods and procedures for the dissemination of information to the public.
  11. Provides statistical information for filing required reports with State and Federal agencies.
  12. Develop and maintain liaison with other law enforcement agencies and analysts to sustain knowledge of regional crime trends and patterns.  
  13. Attend department events such as National Night Out, Open House, Coffee with a Cop, and other similar opportunities to interact with the community members.  
  14. Attends detective and patrol briefings and Department meetings as required; participates on committees as assigned; markets crime analysis services to department personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:


Experience: Two years of responsible analytical staff work preferably in a law enforcement environment.

Education: Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field with some experience in crime analysis or other law enforcement discipline.


Licenses and Certifications: 

Ability to obtain Crime and Intelligence Analysis certificate issued by an accredited university or recognized organization such as California Crime and Intelligence Analysis Association (CCIAA) or International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA); (current possession of the certificate will be considered more desirable.)


Possession of a valid California driver's license issued by California Department of Motor Vehicles.


Knowledge and Skills:

Experience in a municipal law enforcement agency and working knowledge of the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) is highly desirable.

Special Requirements:

  • Individuals may be assigned to rotating work shifts, including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
  • Must be 18 years of age at time of appointment.  
  • Must be free of felony convictions.
  • Due to the highly confidential and sensitive nature of this position, candidates will be required to undergo and successfully complete a thorough background, polygraph and psychological screening in addition to the standard pre-employment examination process.
