THIS IS A PART-TIME GRANT-FUNDED POSITION (20 HOURS PER WEEK)
JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Technician 2 analyzes alternative splicing events using transcriptomic data and performs multi-omics data integration. Additionally, this position develops interactive visualizations of gene networks and splicing patterns for dissemination through a web portal.
Responsibilities
- Analyzes alternative splicing events by processing and interpreting RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) data from human post-mortem brain tissues to identify differential splicing patterns.
- Aligns reads to the genome, quantifies exon and isoform usage.
- Applies statistical models to detect significant splicing change.
- Performs proteogenomic analysis by integrating transcriptomic and proteomic data to validate splicing events at the protein level.
- Develops user-friendly, web-based tools for visualizing alternative splicing events.
- Applies established tools for proteogenomic analysis.
- Implements software pipelines, optimizes existing computational methods, and validates these approaches using relevant datasets.
- Supports collaborative projects, contributes to manuscript preparation, assists with data management tasks, and participates in group meetings and presentations as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: OR a combination of college coursework and work experience to equal four (4) years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Skill in languages such as Python or R.
- Knowledge of statistics, machine learning, and data mining techniques.
- Skill in the analysis of large datasets.
