Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position supervises and manages a team within the Operations division, specifically in the Trailer Mechanic shop.


Position Summary 

The Manager of Trailer Mechanic Shop will be overseeing the maintenance team in the trailer mechanic shop while ensuring compliance with DOT/FMCSA and OSHA standards, managing trailer maintenance schedules and parts inventory, as well as tracking key performance indicators related to fleet readiness.


Key Responsibilities

    Manage day-to-day operations of the trailer shop, including scheduling, repair oversight, and resource allocation.

    Supervise trailer technicians and support staff, providing leadership, training, and performance management.

    Ensure all trailer maintenance and repairs are performed in compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations, OSHA standards, and company policies.

    Conduct regular inspections of work quality and adherence to safety procedures.

    Oversee preventive maintenance schedules, repair orders, and parts inventory management.

    Review maintenance logs, identify repeat issues, and recommend solutions to reduce equipment downtime.

    Track and report on KPIs related to fleet readiness, turnaround time, and maintenance costs

    Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant shop environment.

    Manage vendor relationships and monitor outsourced trailer services when necessary.

    Track labor hours, cost efficiency, and shop productivity through maintenance software systems.

    Maintain different brands of trailer refrigeration units.


Minimum Qualifications

    5+ years of trailer maintenance experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.

    Strong working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA trailer regulations.

    Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

    Hands-on technical knowledge of trailer systems (brakes, lighting, suspension, air systems, hydraulic systems and reefer)

    Experience using maintenance software (e.g., Emaint, or other fleet maintenance platforms).

    Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond quickly to changing priorities.

    Safety-minded with a strong commitment to compliance and quality.

    Familiarity with or a working knowledge of lift gate repair and maintenance.


Preferred Qualifications

    Licensed in refrigeration repair/maintenance is a plus

    ASE Certification is a plus

    Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus


Job Setting & Physical Demands

This position is primarily outdoors but may be required to work between locations and within an indoor office environment for administrative duties, which may require the use of computers and standard office equipment. Fluency to read, write, and understand the English language is required. Must be able to work in all outdoor elements, including dust and allergens. There are occasional needs to work in confined spaces and/or tall heights (over six (6) feet). Position requires long-term ability for standing, sitting, squatting, bending, reaching, and twisting on a regular basis to fulfill essential duties. Candidate must have the ability to operate all machinery necessary within the department and across the facility, including but not limited to driving the scooter. Candidate must be able to work evenings and weekends as business needs arise and during peak seasons. Employee must have the ability to lift 35 pounds unaided and regularly lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.
