Job Title: Student Office Assistant
Reports to: Assistant Director of Operations, Administration, and Facilities Director
Location: Millennium Hall, Harris Hall & Tubman House
Compensation: $15.00 per hour. Position not eligible for benefits
FLSA Status: Student Non-Exempt

Summary
A Student Assistant is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day office and preventative maintenance tasks in the communities. At 20hrs per week, the Student Assistants will greet visitors, answer, and directs telephone calls, assist in monitoring access to the buildings and perform other clerical and maintenance tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Welcomes on-site visitors, determines nature of business, and announces visitors to appropriate personnel.
- Receives payments and issues receipts.
- Troubleshooting and answering incoming telephone calls, determining the purpose of calls, and forwarding calls to appropriate personnel or departments.
- Take and deliver messages or transfer calls to voicemail when appropriate personnel are unavailable.
- Assists with all advertising/marketing events to ensure 100% occupancy.
- Operates computer terminals to input and retrieve data.
- Assists in maintaining resident files for accuracy and accountability.
- Assists with leasing/marketing of apartments/rooms by providing information to prospective families.
- Assists with clerical duties as needed, such as filing, photocopying, and scanning documents.
- Maintain confidentiality in all COCM/TU matters concerning students and staff alike.
- Assists with distributing items to apartments.
- Enforcing policies/ procedures of the residence halls and the university (including campus, state, and federal regulations).
- Assist with basic facility responsibilities such as building walkthroughs, notating damages, and submitting work orders.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- High school diploma.
- Current student at Towson University.
- Ability to lift to 35lbs and navigate up and down stairs.
- Demonstrate proficiency in verbal communication.
- Possess strong customer service skills.
- Must have troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.
- Ability to operate basic office equipment including photocopier, computer, telephone, and fax machine.

Lunch break
Per COCM policy and the State of Maryland Department of Labor, all employees who work 5 (five) or more hours in a single day are entitled to a 30-minute unpaid lunch.
