Position Summary
The Catering and Banquets Intern will gain hands-on experience in managing all aspects of banquet and catering operations. This internship is designed to provide foundational knowledge, practical skills, and exposure to high-level service standards in luxury hospitality. The intern will work closely with seasoned professionals to ensure exceptional guest satisfaction and seamless event execution.
Training Objectives
Under the daily supervision of Direct of Catering, the intern will be trained in the following areas:
Banquet & Catering Fundamentals
- Understand the scope and components of banquet and catering services
- Familiarize with The Pierre’s banquet halls and event spaces
Event Planning & Coordination
- Learn the full event planning process: menu selection, room setup, and execution
- Participating in weekly Operations Meetings with leadership and department heads
Menu & Beverage Analysis
- Analyze upcoming banquet menus with attention to food trends, dietary needs, and cultural preferences
- Learn beverage service techniques including wine, spirits, and cocktail presentation
Logistics & Operations
- Manage logistics: equipment rentals, table arrangements, staffing requirements
- Learn banquet setup and breakdown procedures, equipment handling, and staff delegation
Client Communication & Service Excellence
- Develop communication skills to liaise with clients and deliver personalized service
- Understand guest expectations and how to exceed them
Financial Management
- Gain exposure to budgeting, cost control, pricing strategies, and financial reporting
Cultural & Professional Development
Interns will participate in The Pierre’s vibrant cultural calendar, including:
- Monthly Employee Birthday & Work Anniversary Celebrations
- American holiday events (July 4th, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah)
- Diwali and other Taj Corporate-led celebrations
- Volunteer opportunities such as the annual “Day In The Dirt” in Central Park
Evaluation & Progress
- Regular performance evaluations and feedback sessions
- End-of-phase reviews to ensure readiness for continued training
- Final comprehensive evaluation at the conclusion of the internship
