TITLE: Direct Care Nurse

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Iowa Registered Nurse License.
- CPR Certification.
- Valid driver's license.
- Nusring experience in a clincial setting.
Desired:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing or related field.
- Statement of Professional Recognition through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners.
- Experience in pediatric nursing or public health nursing.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Exceptional communciation and interpersonal skills, both oral and written.
BASIC FUNCTION:
Provides direct skilled nursing care to a student with special health care needs during the school day on a 1:1 basis. Direct nursing care may include assessments, feedings, respiratory system management, medication administration, and management of activities of daily living.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Delivers quality care consistent with the Iowa Board of Nursing and DMPS standards.
- Utilizes critical thinking skills.
- Performs head-to-toe assessments.
- Basic understanding of trach cares, trach suctioning, and trach emergency procedures.
- Prepare and assist students with meals.
- Take care of students’ personal hygiene needs.
- Administer medicine and treatments as prescribed by provider(s).
- Collaboration, as needed, with student’s team including teachers, school staff, building nurse, family, and providers.
- Monitor the physical, mental, and emotional conditions of students and report changes to designated parties.
- May be responsible for transportation of student and/or supervision during transportation.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of clinical records and time entry, including Medicaid billing documentation.
- Train and orient new staff as assigned.

- Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
- Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
