The mission of Pinecrest Supports and Services Center is to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to reach treatment goals and to return to more integrated community living settings. Pinecrest Supports and Services Center specializes in the treatment of people with comorbid intellectual and developmental disabilities and complex medical, behavioral, and psychiatric support needs.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to plan, organize, direct, conduct, and evaluate therapeutic recreational programs for special populations. This role plays a vital part in enhancing the quality of life and well-being of participants through purposeful and inclusive recreation services.

Position Duties

Four years of experience as a teacher, instructor, or counselor in a recreational program; OR

A bachelor's degree in a rehabilitation, recreation, or therapy field, a physical education field, or psychology; OR

Possession of certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist in accordance with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification.

Job Duties:

As a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist 2, you will be instrumental in planning, organizing, directing, conducting, and evaluating therapeutic recreational services for special populations. In this role, you will:

• Be independently responsibility for a caseload of 50-100 individuals. 
• Plan, organize, direct, conduct, assess, and monitor therapeutic recreational services using arts, crafts, games, fitness exercises, sports and social outings as a means to assist individuals in developing interpersonal relationships, socialization skills and improve self-esteem. 
• Utilize various activities of aerobic exercise, calisthenics, stretching and limbering exercises and breathing techniques to improve overall physical health of individuals. 
• Utilize social outings such as ball games, other sporting events, picnics, movies, museums, barbeques, etc. in a multifaceted approach.
• Attend Special Olympic sporting events, banquets and training classes to enhance individuals' level of fitness, awareness and social interactions to meet their personal outcome goals.
• Consult and collaborate with other staff members at PSSC as well as community providers in the assessing, implementing, and delivery of therapeutic recreational services. 
• Provide therapeutic classes as well as evaluative services for the enrollment process of such classes utilizing specific therapeutic forms and profile of supports. 
• Provide in-service training for home staff on leisure activities and use of recreation therapy equipment. 

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: This position may be filled by Detail, Probation, Promotion, Demotion, or Lateral Transfer. Preference may be given to permanent classified employees of Pinecrest Supports and Services Center. 

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist 1 or 2.

Location: Position is located with PINECREST SUPPORTS & SERVICES CENTER - Recreation Therapy

Work Schedule: SHIFT: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM PASS DAYS: Saturday / Sunday

Compensation: This position offers the following Special Entrance Rates based on qualification level:

• THERAPEUTIC RECREATION SPECIALIST 1:  $15.34 - $27.01

• THERAPEUTIC RECREATION SPECIALIST 2:  $16.42 - $28.90
