We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to serve as our Director of Nursing (DON). This leadership role is ideal for a dedicated RN who is passionate about both direct care and team development, and who thrives in a mission-driven, person-centered environment.
What You’ll Do
As Director of Nursing (DON), you will lead PDI’s nursing program by providing direct care, clinical oversight, and leadership to ensure the highest standards of health and safety for the people we support. Your responsibilities will include:
Clinical Oversight & Care
- Complete monthly RN oversight visits for individuals with higher medical support needs (Level 4–6 Supported Living and Medical Residential Services).
- Monitor vital signs, health status, and medication administration while ensuring compliance with state and federal standards.
- Collaborate with physicians to develop and update individualized Plans of Care.
- Arrange for and coordinate outside medical treatments when needed
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Conduct chart reviews, nursing assessments, environmental checks, and medication audits to ensure safety and compliance.
- Oversee Medication Administration Records (MARs), trending reports, and psychotropic medication tracking.
- Serve as liaison between physicians, pharmacies, state licensing agencies, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Ensure compliance with Professional Support Services licensing requirements, DIDD, and TennCare regulations.
Leadership & Supervision
- Provide direct supervision to LPNs, RNs, and Medical Coordinators, offering feedback, coaching, and performance management.
- Work closely with home managers, program managers, and direct support staff to improve communication and care delivery.
- Ensure nursing staff have access to all required medical supplies and resources.
Training & Development
- Train staff in Medication Administration, CPR/First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Communicable Disease protocols.
- Lead in-service trainings and continuing education to ensure staff remain current with best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Once certified, serve as an instructor for Medication Administration classes and FA/CPR certification.
Team Collaboration
- Communicate with families and guardians regarding health status, medical interventions, and care updates.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to align care with individual service plans (ISPs).
- Support nursing coverage and work directly in homes as needed to maintain care continuity.
Requirements
What We’re Looking For
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (BSN preferred).
- Active RN license in Tennessee (or compact states Kentucky/Alabama).
- 1+ years of nursing experience preferred, with experience in IDD or long-term care populations.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise and mentor nursing staff.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel locally.
- Ability to pass background check, drug test, MVR check, TB test, and all required training.

Schedule & Pay
- Full-time, Salary, Exempt position
- Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Additional: Weekends as needed and on-call availability to support nursing department needs after office hours
- Pay: Competitive, based on experience and qualification
