The M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation in Prince George’s County, has an opening for an Assistant Golf Course Manager (Head Golf Professional) at Enterprise Golf Course! Under general direction, assists the Facility Manager with the day-to-day programs and operations of an outstanding multifunctional recreational facility that includes an 18-hole golf course, driving range, practice area, snack bar, and pro shop. This position typically involves assisting the Facility Manager with the design, implementation, and management of a wide variety of recreational, sporting, cultural, and revenue-generating programs serving the needs of a diverse community. Assignments could include but are not limited to responsibility for the total operation in the absence of the Facility Manager, building maintenance, program administration, budget management, and staff supervision. Job assignments require the regular exercise of independent judgment and performance of duties within very general policy guidelines. We require managers at this level to assist in the development of successful business strategies and methodologies to achieve optimum facility operations. The hiring range for this position will be $56,358 – midpoint of the advertised salary range and will be based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience and education.

Position Duties

  • Assists with day-to-day operations at a multi-functional recreational facility
  • Ensures the safety and security of buildings, employees, and patrons
  • Establish strong rapport with management and customers
  • Supervise, hire, train, counsel, and evaluate staff with diverse roles and responsibilities
  • Establish, supervise, and implement effective work schedules
  • Effectively interpret and communicate Commission policy and procedures to employees
  • Provide a team management environment by coordinating weekly, monthly, and quarterly staff and safety meetings
  • Emphasize the importance of customer service with staff members to ensure patrons are greeted and treated in a pleasant and professional manner
  • Ensure all print and electronic media like brochures, flyers, ads, and electronic posts are accurate, current, and posted
  • Coordinate and complete contracted group outings and events
  • Supervise and operate an effective tee time and point of sale (POS) system
  • Prepare, and send effective correspondence as the need arises to employees and the community
  • Accurately and effectively recycle Commission waste, including paper goods, plastics, glass, batteries, and other recyclable products
  • Help supervise expenses and revenues with special focus and emphasis on driving revenue and controlling bottom-line expenditures
  • Assist and help provide accurate monthly and annual budget submissions as the need arises and requested
  • Maintain and store accurate financial records to ensure compliance with audit and divisional needs
  • Monitor the completion and timely submission of timecards

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation, Recreation Management, Facility Management, Education, Business Administration, Physical Education, Communication, Leisure Services, or any related field.
  2. One (1) year of responsible professional experience working in a facility related to parks, recreation, leisure services, or area of required specialty (e.g., arts, performing arts, tennis, aquatics, ice rinks).
  3. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total five (5) years.
  4. Valid driver’s license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of the position.
  5. Contingent upon area of assignment, some positions in this class may require valid: (a) operating license (e.g., county pool operator, childcare license) as appropriate; (b) First Aid, CPR, and automated external defibrillator (AED) certifications; or (c) certifications as related to assignment (e.g., Lifeguard Instruction, Fundamentals of Gymnastics).
  6. Pass Commission medical exam.

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two or more years of golf facility and program management experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A valid driver's license may be required.
