GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Nurse Education Specialist is an integral part of the education team, responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering training programs for nursing staff and other clinical team members. This role involves creating nursing-focused educational materials, conducting hands-on training sessions, assessing nursing competencies, and supporting the integration of best practices into daily care. The ideal candidate is an experienced nurse passionate about teaching and has a strong understanding of nursing procedures, patient safety, and clinical standards. This position is key to fostering professional growth, promoting excellence in nursing practice, and mentoring staff to enhance patient care and team performance.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Design, implement, and deliver training programs for nursing staff, focusing on clinical skills, electronic health record (EHR) documentation, onboarding processes, best practices, and continuing education opportunities.
- Collaborate in developing and managing onboarding and nursing training schedules.
- Conduct training through in-person and virtual sessions, workshops, and individual or group education.
- Evaluate nursing competencies through assessments, provide constructive feedback, and assist with individualized improvement plans as needed.
- Ensure training content aligns with current healthcare standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices for nursing care.
- Deliver individualized education, support, and follow-up to newly hired nursing staff to ensure successful integration into the team.
- Contribute to the development of mentoring and follow-up training programs for new nursing staff.
- Develop training materials and educational resources to support nurses in their daily practice.
- Participate in or facilitate case reviews during monthly nursing or interdisciplinary team meetings.
- Serve as a resource for nursing staff during the onboarding process and as needed for ongoing professional development or continuing education.
- Collaborate with Quality and Risk Management teams to identify specific training needs and implement targeted programs.
- May be requested to provide direct patient care only in cases of extreme staffing shortages, with mutual approval from the Director of Clinical Education and Nursing Leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Kansas and Oklahoma, or multistate Registered Nurse license in nurse's state of residence.
- 1-2 years of training experience in using an EHR preferred.
- Preferably three years of clinical experience in an outpatient clinic.
- Valid driver’s license, this position will travel as needed.

- Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively utilize digital platforms for delivering engaging and accessible educational content.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the rationale of appropriate patient care.
- Passion for teaching, mentoring, and inspiring growth, with the ability to tailor training to diverse needs and adapt content based on feedback.
- Proficient in using electronic health records and other training platforms/tools.
- Social and cultural sensitivity appropriate to ethnically and economically diverse patient-and employee-base.
- Communicates effectively through appropriate channels, following the proper chain of command for addressing patient complaints.
- Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in emergencies.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with the organization’s policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and/or stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. This role may require travel between healthcare facilities to provide training.
