Position Overview:
The Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing electrical and instrumentation systems in a chemical plant environment. This role includes working with high- and low-voltage equipment, PLC systems, and process instrumentation while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Technicians must be able to read schematics and P&IDs, perform physical labor, and support preventative maintenance and emergency response efforts as needed.
What you will be doing:
• Troubleshoot, repair, and install electronic and pneumatic instrumentation and controls
• Perform electrical work on motors, switchgear, VFDs, and lighting systems up to 2300 volts
• Read and interpret schematics and P&IDs from engineering packages
• Conduct inspections and maintenance in railcar and loading areas
• Operate manlifts, forklifts, and hand tools; bend and install conduit up to 2"
• Conduct preventive maintenance on instrumentation and small gauge wiring
• Install and repair control valves and piping components
• Participate in emergency repairs and unscheduled callouts
Required Qualifications:
• Minimum 3 years of relevant I&E experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
• High school diploma or GED required; technical school certificate or associate degree preferred
• Strong understanding of process control instrumentation, PLCs, and DCS systems
• Proficiency in reading schematics, P&IDs, and performing control loop checks
• Working knowledge of basic chemistry and mechanical systems
• Moderate computer skills; able to use MS Office and digital documentation tools
• Physically able to lift heavy equipment, climb, kneel, and work in confined spaces
• Must be able to work outdoors and in all weather conditions
• Completion of applicable safety and technical training including NFPA-70E and OSHA
