Advancing a Safe, Accessible and Sustainable Built Environment
The Community Development Department plays a vital role in the continued development, sustainable growth, and success of Torrance. CDD maintains the Building and Safety, Engineering, Environmental (Code Enforcement), the Geographic Information System (GIS) and Mapping, Housing, and Planning Divisions, which serve the community by overseeing redevelopment, comprehensive planning, zoning, housing programs, project planning, permitting, environmental stewardship, NPDES and building and code enforcement.

Position Duties
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and three years of increasingly responsible experience in a housing assistance program, with at least one year in a supervisory or lead capacity. An Associate Degree or sixty (60) or more college units from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public administration, business administration, social services, or a closely related field, is desirable.
Ideal Candidate
In addition to the minimum requirements, the ideal candidate will possess:
- Strong supervision skills to effectively interact with staff and the public;
- Experience in housing services administration processes and procedures;
- The ability to interpret and explain codes, regulations, and laws;
- Highly effective customer service skills;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- A high degree of initiative;
- Demonstrated ability to be both resourceful and reliable;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and
- The ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects, working independently, and shifting priorities as needed.
