About the Department
“Grow with Alexandria” Director
Special Assistant to the Mayor for Retail Services
The City of Alexandria seeks to hire a qualified individual or individuals to fulfill the mission of its Grow with Alexandria activities. Optimally, this would include a director-level position with oversight over retail strategies most specifically dealing with the Alexandria Mall and surrounding mall-area business retail. The City of Alexandria is launching its intensive capital-projects REIGNITE program with a heavy focus on the Reimagine Masonic Drive Corridor. While the position would focus on this corridor, the position would involve deploying retail assistance strategies throughout the City of Alexandria and contiguous, targeted areas of Rapides Parish.
Position Duties
The ideal scenario is one Director assisting other city divisions and private-sector partners; however, it is conceivable, depending on the interest and qualifications of applicants, that two or more part-time or task-focused assistants working with other divisions and private-sector partners might be a better fit as the collaboration grows.
Responsibilities and/or Other Division Interactions:
Market, brand, and develop healthcare-related supportive infrastructure, general retail, and “recreation commerce” in the City of Alexandria • Community service policy and programming • Guide retail services team • Develop advocacy leadership throughout the community • Coordinate and manage citywide and city-sponsored events for REIGNITE • Coordinate and monitor pertinent cooperative endeavor activities
Minimum Qualifications

(Preferred) Four-year degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Public Policy, Political Science, or Human Resources, or related field; or five years of experience and knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws relating to government operations and intergovernmental dynamics particularly in economic, workforce, and related marketing or economic development areas. Appropriate management experience may substitute for a degree, but would call for appropriate certifications, relevant past work experience, or other equivalent training and experience or commitment to complete such other equivalent training and experience. Certified economic or workforce developer status is desirable and may act as substitute for other requirements. Equivalent marketing experience a plus.
