2520 TEACHER DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST (GRANT FUNDED)
GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK
Under the leadership of the Director of Human Resources and in collaboration with the Coordinator of Professional Learning, this position performs professional and administrative work to support the Division, School, and Mentor-Levels of Suffolk Public Schools Induction Program. The role of the specialist is separate and apart from the evaluative role of the principal or supervisor of the teacher; the specialist advocates for, facilitates, and supports the work of the teacher, but never performs supervision or evaluation.
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.

Coordinate with the Director of Human Resources and Coordinator of Professional Learning to support the SPS Strategic Plan goal: Ensure the effective and efficient management of capital and human resources for the development and retention of high-quality staff, sustainable operations, and systems in alignment with the VDOE Guidelines for Mentor Teacher Programs for Beginning and Experienced Teachers.
Collaborate with the Coordinator of Professional Learning to conduct Mentor Lead Team Meetings that will facilitate the deployment of professional learning opportunities to support teacher development at the school level.
Facilitate the development of high-quality, job-embedded professional learning as needed to:
Refine teachers’ knowledge and skills, expand teachers’ use of a variety of research-based instructional strategies and resources to improve instruction;
Use student data to drive decisions;
Align instruction with curriculum to meet the needs of all students;
Model, co-plan, co-teach, conduct classroom visits, analyze data, provide collegial and actionable feedback, and design a plan of action; advocate for,
Facilitate and support the work of the teacher, engagement, and classroom management
Provide classroom support to increase instructional quality and effectiveness.
Build and maintain confidential relationships with teachers.
Participate in all related and required professional learning to remain knowledgeable about current and past research.
Prepares department and division reports as required and performs related duties as required or assigned.

Terms of Employment
Salary Range: $75,600 to 122,997 (Professional I Scale)
Contract: 12 Months
