Job Summary: Supervises children at bus stops, interchange areas, and on bus going to and from school; assists bus driver as he/she may direct.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, School Year Only – 181 Days/Year 3.75 hours/day, split schedule: Morning 6:30 a.m. - 8:15 a.m. & Afternoon 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Salary: Range 1: $16.74 - $17.40 / Hourly Rate
Minimum Qualifications & Abilities:
High school diploma or equivalent.
One (1) year of experience working with children preferred.
Ability to interact in a positive way with students, bus drivers, district, and community.
Grooming and personality which establishes a desirable example for children.
Good physical and mental health.
Ability to demonstrate appropriate English usage and communication skills.
Ability to use proper techniques and procedures for lifting and moving children incapable of providing assistance.
Ability to demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward children.
Ability to physically pick up and carry a young student to his/her seat, if needed.
Experience using positive behavioral supports and behavior management strategies.
Knowledge of basic concepts of working with children with special needs.
Ability to demonstrate flexibility as transportation routes change.
Ability to ride in a motor vehicle without getting “car sick”.
Training in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) – preferred.
Essential Functions:
Performs a variety of functions related to the special needs of children being transported.
Manages the behavior of children through the use of a variety of reinforcement techniques.
Stays informed about students’ health and/or behavior plans for safe transportation purposes; knows how to respond when there is a health or behavior concern.
Shows consistency, firmness, and fairness in enforcing bus rules; maintains poise and a confident manner.
Understands and carries out oral and written instructions related to the specific needs of individual children.
Assures the health and safety of students by following established practices and procedures; maintains bus/transportation environment in a safe, orderly and clean manner; sanitizes the inside of the bus as needed.
Works closely and effectively with drivers, students, parents, and other school staff members.
Assists students with hygienic needs (nose blowing, cleaning up after a toileting accident or vomiting, etc.) while taking proper precautions to protect self from transfer of germs.
May make minor adjustments on special equipment, such as wheelchairs, crutches, and braces as directed by school staff.
May assist on transportation routes for field trips.
Learns how to operate different types of safety seats, buckles, latches, wheelchair hooks, etc., as needed for safe transportation of students.
Performs other duties as assigned by Superintendent or designee.
